College of Nursing has an opening for a part-time (0.40 FTE) Behavioral Health Counselor /Instructor Adjunct / Senior Instructor Adjunct (Open Rank) within its federally qualified community health center, Sheridan Health Services (SHS), located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code: 80236) via telehealth services. We are seeking this position entirely focused on Adolescent and Pediatric populations in a remote capacity. This position will be a part of our pediatric integrated care/school-based health center and will collaborate with the pediatric team.

Nature of Work:

The University of Colorado, College of Nursing, is seeking a 0.40 FTE Behavioral Health Counselor for a non-benefited position at the Sheridan Health Services (SHS) Family Health Clinic/Youth Health Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code: 80236). This position is clinic-based as a mental health provider and includes an Instructor or Senior Instructor (open rank) level, non-tenure clinical practice track appointment within the College of Nursing.

Clinic Description:

Sheridan Health Services is a multi-site, nurse-managed federally qualified community health center, funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Primary Healthcare; and is a collaborative effort between the College of Nursing and the Sheridan School District. There are now 52 employees at two convenient locations to serve community health needs primarily for residents of Arapahoe, Denver and Jefferson counties. A Youth Health Clinic is located in the Sheridan School District Administration building. The Family Health Clinic is located in southwest Denver on the Fort Logan campus and provides services to adults and children, 65% of whom identify at Latinx, and 42% of whom are best served in another language, with Spanish being the predominant second language. Services offered include primary care across the lifespan; prenatal and postpartum, gynecology, dentistry, pharmacy, behavioral health, and outpatient substance abuse treatment. Sheridan Health Services is a Patient-Centered Medical Home, and as such, we uphold a model of care that places the patient at the center, incorporating the values and beliefs of the patient in all decision-making. Supervision Received:

Direct supervision will be provided by the Behavioral Health Lead or Behavioral Health Director.

Supervision Exercised:

Student supervision is required during clinical placements. Clinical supervision of unlicensed Behavioral Health Counselors, as needed.

Examples of Work Performed:
    Provide general outpatient behavioral health treatment via individual, group and family therapy, case management, crisis management, skill building, and psycho-education to Adults, children and/or adolescents. Provide case management and care coordination with providers of service including but not limited to primary care providers, school personnel, family members, and other mental health and community partners. Evaluate crisis situations and take appropriate action to ensure client safety and the safety of all clinic users. Participate in scheduled behavioral health team meetings, interdisciplinary work groups, monthly staff meetings, and other required meetings. Complete all required clinical and administrative documentation to accepted standards of practice, accurately, legibly, and by established timelines on electronic health record system and paper as needed. Utilize best practices and provide all treatment within appropriate limits. Complete and follow through with financial and clinical information necessary to ensure reimbursement for provided services. Expected to demonstrate high quality customer service focus, good communication and professionalism with clinic users, co-workers and representatives from outside agencies and to enhance community relationships. Performs other duties as determined by the Behavioral Health Clinical Lead, Behavioral Health Director or Executive Director.
  • Completes necessary documentation according to established documentation timelines and in adherence with payor source(s) standards

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary range for each position has been established at:
    $25.56/hour at Instructor of Clinical Practice, unlicensed $31.95 - $40.00/hour annually at Instructor of Clinical Practice, licensed/LCSW, LPC $31.95 - $40.00/hour annually at Sr. Instructor of Clinical Practice/LCSW, LPC

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Instructor Adjunct (Unlicensed):
    Master's degree in social work, counseling or closely related field. Completion of approximately 2,700 hours of post-degree work experience and participation in at least 65 hours of clinical supervision: Can be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have current active CO licensures within 6 months of hire.
Experience in providing telehealth services.
Instructor Adjunct (Licensed):
    Master's degree in social work, counseling or closely related field. Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or similar: Have current licensure in good standing (any state), or have completed the number of hours mentioned above. Can be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have current active CO licensures within 6 months of hire.
Experience in providing telehealth services.
Senior Instructor Adjunct:
    Master's degree in social work, counseling or closely related field. Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or similar. Current licensure in good standing (any state). Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have CO licensures by date of hire.
Demonstrated leadership in area of practice. Demonstrated experience collaborating with academic colleagues and students in practice activities. Experience in providing telehealth services.
Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience providing behavioral health services in a primary care setting, using brief treatment modalities with an emphasis on time effective, recovery oriented, evidenced-based treatment. Experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, SUD subspecialty certification, and/or Certified Addiction Technician/Specialist certification.
  • Experience working with population-based outcomes.
  • Experience with care delivery that incorporates a social justice perspective around the intersectionality of racism, classism, LGBTQ issues, and other forms of oppression.
  • Experience with prevention and early intervention approaches utilizing trauma informed care.
  • Experience with school-based therapy services.
  • Experience with infant mental health.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be willing and able to utilize bilingual skills (Spanish/English) at a conversation level in a clinical setting.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado licenses within six months of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado licenses by date of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain valid NPI number by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to complete CAQH by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certification within one month of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to actively participate in health plan contracts
  • Must be willing and able to remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current
  • Must be willing and able to provide telehealth services.
  • Must be willing and able to ensure strict compliance with University and professional policies/procedures
  • Must be willing and able to work in a normal patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.

  • Ability to use computer and clinic software, and to document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with thoroughness and accuracy.

  • Expertise in clinical assessment and therapeutic interventions with children and youth, families, and groups.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of primary care-behavioral health integrated programs, including fundamental elements of co-located and/or fully integrated services.
  • Ability to maintain a standard caseload of patients.
