UCLA Lab School, part of the School of Education & Information Studies, is an innovative school committed to research-based education for an ethnically, linguistically, socially, and economically diverse student body of approximately 450 students, ages 4-12. The Dual Language Resource Specialist Demonstration Teacher works in collaboration with Administration and other Demonstration Teachers to provide an appropriate and robust educational environment for children ages 4 to 12, planning and engaging appropriate learning experiences at UCLA Lab School.
Essential Functions
The Dual Language Resource Specialist Demonstration Teacher will spearhead the implementation of models of differentiated instruction, progress monitoring tools, and various assessments to support specialized, small-group instruction in reading, writing, and math and work to identify, introduce, and maintain blended learning models to enhance opportunities for personalized learning.
The Dual Language Resource Specialist Demonstration Teacher works under the supervision of the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Inclusion Coordinator while collaborating with Demonstration Teachers. Reports directly to the Principal or Assistant Principal of UCLA Lab School.
Responsibilities
  • Support the school's Response to Instruction (RTI) model tailored to meet the needs of a broad range of learning styles and development levels for students ages 4-12 at UCLA Lab School;
  • Develop appropriate follow-up practice at home for the various age groups and learning levels;
  • Communicate with parents in person, over the phone, online, via email, and/or in writing, providing opportunities for parent-child engagement, bridging home and school; identify and utilize resources appropriate to support the RTI program; and
  • Utilize the classroom environment to support the whole child.
  • The Dual Language Resource Specialist Demonstration Teacher will be a member of the Child Support Team and collaborate with colleagues to develop UCLA Lab School's Multi-Tiered System of Support.
  • Perform assessments and progress monitoring in literacy and math to determine appropriate support systems
  • Act as a case manager for students with learning accommodations.
  • Organize and facilitate student support team meetings.
  • Monitor classroom progress.
  • Coordinate and facilitate communication between student, family, school, and allied professionals and provide regular student progress reports in writing.
  • Consult with teachers, parents, administration, and outside professionals regarding the special learning needs of students and prescribe accommodations, modifications, and other strategies and materials for classroom and home interventions.
  • Support teachers in the implementation of learning plans, accommodations, and modifications.
  • Provide direct services to students.
  • Observe students displaying academic or behavioral difficulties to assess their learning strengths and challenges, as requested by teachers, parents, or administration.
  • Participate in classroom instruction as needed, focusing on those students requiring additional support, modification, or enrichment.
  • Provide informal and formal pre-and post-assessments of individual children as requested by teachers, parents, or administration.
  • Develop instructional learning plans with long-term goals and specific objectives for identified students, including recommendations of in-school [internal?] or outside resources.
  • Provide written reports to school and parents with assessment results and recommendations of appropriate diagnostic testing and intervention programs for school-related learning complexities.
  • Provide executive functioning support for students.
  • Facilitate and/or direct one-on-one or small group instruction to students who need support in and out of the classroom
  • Facilitate training and workshops centered on inclusive practices for faculty and staff.
  • Maintain confidential student records and keep accurate documentation of sessions, meetings, and other communications appropriate to ethical and professional standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience
    BA or BS
    Master's Level, preferred
    Teaching credentials including Special Education Credential
    Three-five years of teaching experience
    Spanish Speaking required
