JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut, Stamford campus, seeks applicants to serve as the Admissions Coordinator. Under the direction of the Senior Admissions Officer, this position focuses on the management of the campus visits program, including hiring, training, and supervision of student guides, coordination of visit registration, and follow-up, conducting presentations to campus visitors, working with community-based organizations and high school group visits, assisting with large scale campus-wide events and special sessions as well as giving tours as needed.

The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to write clearly and informatively, interpret written information, compose routine letters and emails, and respond appropriately and in a timely manner to inquiries and concerns by phone and email. The candidate will also be expected to accurately enter information into various computer programs, paying close attention to detailed information to ensure the accuracy and completeness of database reports. Candidates should have a working knowledge of office equipment, the ability to troubleshoot issues and maintain positive working relationships with campus departments, student workers, and the campus community.

This position requires flexibility in work schedule to support recruitment initiatives and includes occasional evenings and weekends, as well as changes in schedule due to special events or holidays.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads Admissions presentations ranging from 30 to 60 minutes in length in an engaging way and to multiple audiences which can include counselors, family members, high school students, faculty, and staff.
  • Coordinates the Stamford Campus visit experience to include: registration, correspondence with visitors, logistics associated with the visit (arranging parking, directions to campus, etc.), ensuring positive first impressions for visitors, developing the tour script and presentation material as well as receiving feedback from visitors regarding their experiences.
  • Develops and implements creative outreach initiatives to prospective students to invite them to visit campus, such as call-out nights.
  • Offers weekly meetings with first-year and transfer students to assist them on their college journey.
  • Oversees the Husky for a Day program which allows UConn Stamford faculty to create a workshop for prospective students to understand what it means to be a UConn Stamford husky and includes a program for parents and family members.
  • Arranges a visitation schedule that is convenient for prospective students and families, including evening hours and weekends. The incumbent will collaborate with UConn's Department of Residential Life on establishing a showroom that is an accurate and positive representation of the student experience.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises a talented and diverse group of 15-20 student guides, who are primarily responsible for delivering a quality experience through welcoming and guiding visitors while on campus.
  • Creates and updates existing flyers, PowerPoints, and written communication materials to highlight all UConn and UConn Stamford has to offer.
  • Supports the Stamford campus outreach schedule and involvement in open houses, receptions, and on- and off-campus outreach activities, seeks input and assistance from University departments such as Student Support Services, Financial Aid, and faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and two to three years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and regularly exercise judgment regarding a wide variety of administrative matters.
  • Familiarity with database programs and record keeping.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to problem-solve with attention to detail and long-term goals.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and excellent writing skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree.
  • Two to three years of experience in higher education, admissions, or events management.
  • Up to one year of related experience working directly with high school/college students and with diverse and underrepresented audiences in a responsible administrative or managerial support position.
  • Experience working in organizations committed to diversity.
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer applications especially Word products and Excel and Access statistical reporting programs.
  • Knowledge of the college application and enrollment processes.
  • Strong social media skills and experience.
  • Spanish speaking and literacy are a plus.

This is a permanent, full-time position with a rotating schedule that includes open and closing shifts, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
