Job Description:


Basic Functions and Responsibilities:


The Graduate Assistant will provide support for a variety of programs and services including but not limited to, serving as a student mentor and advisor, developing and facilitating workshops, assisting with employer relations, participating in the planning and marketing of job and transfer fairs, and attending departmental retreats and meetings.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist with the planning, marketing, and implementation of all Career and Transfer Center programming.
  • Provide individual resume critiques and job search assistance.
  • Coordinate and conduct practice interviews and provide feedback.
  • Design and present workshops to campus partners, students, and community members on various career related topics.
  • Assist in the facilitation of individual career and transfer coaching appointments.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate focus groups.
  • Collect and organize data and insights from focus group participants.
  • Create and summarize focus group findings and share with relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist with presentations to classes, clubs, and organizations.
  • Assist with employer outreach and engagement.
  • Maintain knowledge of career and transfer related software, appointment scheduling system.
  • Attend bi-weekly team meetings.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality as it relates to information gained via appointments
  • Engagement with students and community members.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and one-on-one supervision meetings.
  • Special projects and tasks as assigned.

Supervision Received:
Supervision is received from the Coordinator of the Career and Transfer Center.


Supervision Exercised:
The Career and Transfer Specialist (Graduate Assistant) will not have any supervisory oversight.



Requirements:


Qualifications and Working Conditions:


1. Minimum requirement of a Bachelor degree.
2. Currently enrolled in a graduate program in a Counseling, Human Resource Development, Student Affairs or related program.
3. Interest in Career and Transfer Center operations and services available to internal and external stakeholders.
4. Proficient in and comfortable with utilizing technology resources, including but not limited to: Zoom, Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and various social media platforms
5. Ability to work with diverse populations, faculty, staff, and students.
6. Evidence of effective written and interpersonal communication skills .
7. Ability to promote unconditional positive regard and model enthusiasm, courtesy, and professionalism when dealing with staff, students, faculty, and community members.
8. Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and effectively execute multiple initiatives, programs, and events and meet established deadlines.
9. Ability to analyze situations, identify solutions, present recommendations, and anticipate issues and consequences of decisions and actions.
10. Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.


Physical Demands:
Work is performed in a general office environment and sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.



Additional Information:


Hourly rate $20


Hours: are flexible and looking to fill more then one position.

An "out-of-state employee" is defined as an employee of Oakton College whose primary work location is outside of the state of Illinois. State taxes, employment tax, and worker's compensation provisions vary from state to state and require payroll compliance with these various rules.


Allowable States for Out-of-State Employment


All employees must maintain their primary residence in Illinois, Indiana, or a reciprocal state with Illinois. Reciprocal states include Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Illinois has tax agreements with these reciprocal states. Employees may have their primary residence in Indiana since Indiana is adjacent to Illinois.
