Position Summary:
Provide individual and group substance abuse treatment in an office and community setting using a stage-based treatment model that is non-confrontational, considers interactions of mental illness and substance abuse, and has client-determined goals. Provide direct clinical services to clients on an individual, group and family basis to teach symptom-management techniques and promote personal growth and development by assisting clients to cope with internal and external stresses. Provide case management services as needed.
Knowledge:
The Substance Abuse Specialist must have knowledge of individual, group, and family education techniques to provide substance abuse treatment using a stage based treatment model. It is essential the Substance Abuse Specialist have skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for clients' rights and personal preferences in treatment is essential. Typically, must have a valid driver's license for the state in which the program operates or effectively uses transportation to travel independently in the program's service area.
Education:
Requires a minimum of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health or related discipline.
Work Experience:
Minimum of one year experience working with adults with mental illness and substance abuse.
Shift:
Day, Fulltime (40 Hours)
8:30 am -5:00 pm
Exempt, Pay Grade: CG

Skills:
Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team in the provision of support services to adults and their family. Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate services, disseminate information and maintain regular contacts with service providers.
Required Licensure, Certification:
Substance Abuse Specialist: Must have current certification as a CAC-AD or CSC-AD.
Working Conditions:
Work at times produces high levels of mental and physical fatigue when providing and coordinating services. Frequent travel and work in community settings. Work requires evening and weekend on-call coverage.
