Position Summary:The Mycorrhiza lab at North Central College (Naperville, IL) seeks to hire a grant-funded laboratory technician for a 6 month period between June 1 and December 1, 2023, full time (40 hrs/week) for $25/hr with benefits. The technician will be responsible for sustaining the research efforts of a National Science Foundation CAREER research project (# 2145142), “Investigating the role of common mycorrhizal networks in the establishment, environmental change, and persistence of an invasive plant species in the tallgrass prairie.”
Description of Key Responsibilities:This temporary
• Carry-out a greenhouse experiment on two species of interest to inform future experiments
• Maintain accurate records through data collection, notebook keeping, and data management
• Set up a large field experiment for completion in the following year, which includes working outside and physically demanding work in tallgrass prairies
• Assist with mentoring three REU students, for which the technician will receive training
• Effectively and regularly communicate with the PI via virtual calls twice a week about the progress of the research

7. Be able to think on one’s feet to troubleshoot issues as they come up
8. Ability to use a greenhouse facility is preferred
This is a temporary grant-funded laboratory technician position. The person in this position will be employed on a Full-Time, Exempt position.
Education/Training:A master’s degree in biology or higher to be considered for this positon.
Experience:• Experience in growing large amounts of plants at one time
• Experience in applying statistics to real-world datasets
• Experience working with undergraduates
• Experience working in a team environment
• Previous research experiences in ecology, plant biology, or related fields
Must be a US citizen, US national, or permanent resident, to qualify.
