JOB SUMMARY

The MGH Institute of Health Professions invites creative and motivated researchers to apply for a full-time Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship position in our Brain Recovery Lab. 

The Brain Recovery Lab is a state-of-the-art lab at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in which has an opening for a postdoctoral fellow to work on an NIH-funded project involving transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

The fellow will work closely with the lab director, Teresa J. Kimberley, PT, PhD, FAPTA and several co-investigators throughout Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

The focus of work will be on the discovery and development of unique methods of combining TMS and fMRI findings to understand the neurologic impairment in people with focal dystonia and people suffering from acute stroke.

The candidate will be encouraged to work with the team to develop new related research ideas and seek out productive relationships with other area researchers. Highly individualized mentorship and career support will be provided.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform data collection on patients and healthy control participants (including fMRI, TMS)
  • Process and analyze electromyographic and brain imaging data
  • Create and manage research databases
  • Assist with data interpretation in the context of the literature
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research findings (writing of manuscripts and presentations)
  • Contribute to the development of research aims and grant writing
  • Train and mentor lab colleagues
  • Participate in lab meetings
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.


Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Doctorate or Ph.D. required
  • Coursework/Training or work experience in related tools are encouraged to apply:
    • Task and resting state data analysis, statistics
    • Magnetic resonance
    • TMS, and/or signal processing
SKILLS

Required

  • Motivated and self-directed
  • Have strong training in quantitative methods, programming, and patient interaction
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as team member
  • Ability to make independent, effective decisions
  • High degree of computer literacy, including statistical and programming skills
  • Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems
  • Neuroimaging skills: FSL, Freesurfer, SimNibs
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to express self well verbally and in writing
Preferred

  • Experience working with patient populations
  • Clinical research experience
  • Magnetic resonance image scanning and processing expertise
  • TMS experience
