The Accounting Manager is responsible for providing financial oversight and carrying out various accounting functions of General Accounting based on a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Financial Analysis, and the Financial Systems employed by the University. They perform complex, monthly, quarterly and yearly reconciliation of the general ledger accounts. They are responsible for problem resolution in their areas of responsibility. They rely on professional experience and technical training to perform all duties, while also independently researches data for addressing new issues and collaborates with supervisors and peers for problem resolution.

Routine functions may include but are not limited to reviewing and recording entries, account reconciliations, and the preparation of accounting schedules and financial reporting. 

Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with other areas is essential.  To be proficient, this position requires a strong technical aptitude and experience with technical applications.

The Accounting Manager provides financial information for financial statements and/or guidance to both internal and external people for transactions.  Responsible for financial data for all areas of responsibility.  Analyzes, monitors, processes and exchanges information.

They communicate with team members within General Accounting, but also must communicate with all other departments at the College. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and at least three (3) years of directly related accounting experience. Experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Financial Analysis, and Financial Systems. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

* Ability to perform complex, monthly reconciliation of the general ledger to the student – accounts receivable module, collapsing student / 3rd party – level balance and creating an aging report as well as year-over-year analysis.

* Position requires access to confidential and sensitive information.

* Strong communication and technical skills.

* Ability to work effectively with a variety of audiences to include both functional and technical peers as well as the University community.

* Must be proficient in the use of computers and have the ability to utilize automated accounting and reporting systems.

* Must have the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

* Must be proficient in working between routine processing, accounting functions, and financial oversight.

* Responsibilities must be carried out accurately and in a timely manner.

* Must be able to analytically analyze financial data.

* Ability to innovate, streamline, and increase efficiencies.

Preferred:

* Technical / systems education and experience.

* Master’s degree.
 

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
