Job Description
The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Social Work (SSW) has an opening for an open-rank Research Assistant/Associate Professor. This position will function as a research assistant/associate professor (RAP) and will work collaboratively on the Prevention of Adolescent Risks Initiative Team (PARI) on projects related to human trafficking and teen pregnancy prevention. This position is responsible for providing the highest technical expertise to research programs and for evaluating services, performing studies and/or projects, and overseeing research activities. The RAP will be expected to develop research, write and submit IRBs, collect and analyze primary and secondary data, work with community stakeholders, funders and other researchers to disseminate findings, and develop new, innovative research ideas that will be supported with grants for the future. The RAP will perform research duties including but not limited to designing studies, collecting data, managing surveys, conducting interviews, maintaining data integration systems and working with team members on grant applications and peer-reviewed publications. The RAP will work and help supervise research students and will work to support a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion in all work. This position requires approximately 25% travel in the Baltimore area and other in-state travel.

PARI is a standalone research unit led by Nadine Finigan-Carr, PhD as PI at the SSW, in partnership with the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force, Governor’s Office, the Maryland Department of Human Resources, the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Numerous project partners include the SAFE Center, Healthy Teen Network, TurnAround, Inc., and the Baltimore Child Abuse Center, as well as a network of survivors of human trafficking and child sexual abuse. The work of PARI is done in collaboration with the newly founded UMB Center for Violence Prevention. The incumbent may serve as affiliated faculty of the Center.

 

Essential Functions:

    Serve as the PI for research activities including data collection, data entry, data verification, data analysis, compliance and clinical relevance of data. Conduct library research and contributes to the preparation and writing of research findings for publication of journal articles and grant proposals. Responsible for programmatic and financial reports for management and stakeholders. Serves as liaison to other departments, outside organizations, government agencies, and product representatives to promote effective and efficient operation and use of resources. Work closely with funder, cross-functional teams, and PI to develop scope, deliverables, required resources, work plan, budget, and timing for new initiatives. Manage the budget and be accountable for delivering against the established goals and objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Doctorate in social work, public health, psychology, or field of study related to the research.

Experience: Two or more years of mixed methods research; Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organizational skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of content related to adolescent risk and resiliency (e.g., anti-human trafficking or sexual risk prevention) Strong analytical skills for quantitative analysis. Strong people skills to work well with community stakeholders and university partners. Strong writing skills for grant writing and results dissemination. Strong background in prevention science and/or adolescent health preferred. Be highly organized with the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
