Job Details
The Art Program within the School of Visual + Performing Arts at Tulsa Community College seeks a qualified candidate for an Assistant Professor of Art position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching and learning, student mentorship, and maintaining an active studio practice. Such candidate will recognize this opportunity as one positioned to develop and sustain a growing Arts Program on an urban campus. TCC is in the heart of downtown Tulsa, a metropolitan area with a thriving Arts District, an international arts fellowship, notable green spaces, and museums.
Position will begin fall 2023.
Teach a minimum course load of four studio art courses per semester.
Teaching load will be focused on, but not limited to: 2D Art Foundations, Drawing, and Printmaking courses.
Reinforce classroom instruction by aiding and advising students during Open Studio Hours to help resolve individual technical and conceptual issues
Support and encourage a culture of making, innovation, and experimentation.
Promote safe use of studio space and equipment.
Commitment to service within the college, program, and profession.
Ability to work individually and collectively with Art Program faculty
Consult regularly with the Art Program Coordinator, Studio Manager, and Full-Time Art Faculty to assess and address the needs of the program.
Minimum QualificationsMFA with an emphasis in Drawing or Printmaking.
Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary and historical discourse and theory of two-dimensional art.
Proficiency with drawing materials including, such as: charcoal, acrylic paint, graphite, ink, and digital tools.
Interpersonal skills geared towards student learning and mentorship.
Experience teaching art foundations, printmaking, and/or drawing courses at the collegiate level.
Preferred QualificationsPrevious teaching experience (two years post-graduate school)
Experience with a variety of printmaking techniques, such as: relief, intaglio, woodblock, monotype, and lithography.
Ability and interest integrating Adobe software and digital technology into the curriculum.
