CU Boulder encourages applications for the Residential Programs Manager - Data Science! This role leads the operational functions of the Master's of Science in Data Science residential degrees program in the Graduate School, and collaborates on curricular, policy, and administration degree services. In coordination with the Faculty Director, this position will implement strategies and policies to support residential students and increase program growth through marketing and communication, event planning, student services/retention efforts, and course assessment/support. Additionally, the Program Manager will coordinate the hiring and onboarding of faculty, provide personnel management for temporary faculty who support the residential degree, onboard and supervise residential student services staff, and lead the fiscal management for the residential program.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Student Services Management:
  • Support all Residential Student Populations and serve as a guide in discovering the best application and enrollment processes for specialized student populations.
  • Coordinate processes and workflow for Residential Programs.
  • Advise and counsel current students, faculty, and staff on policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and graduation requirements/processes of residential degree programs.
  • Coordinate communication to current and prospective students to ensure emails are responded to in a timely matter. Direct all outgoing communication to students, including automated messages, intervention outreach, and student support.
  • Work with the Faculty Director to understand the enrollment needs and goals of the program with student population attributes.
  • Track recruitment, retention, and performance of women and underrepresented groups in the residential programs and inform the team members of relevant trends.
  • Monitor, assess, and facilitate the workflow of registration on an ongoing basis.
  • Manage efficiency of current student services processes implementing updates as needed.
  • Develop data analysis needs and inform Faculty Director of any trends/opportunities for program/student services improvements.
  • Lead the reporting process and communicate results to campus collaborators.
Supervision and Leadership:
  • Manage program staff and adjust day-to-day work assignments in accordance with the ebb and flow of the annual workload. Implement staffing adjustments to optimize efficiency and effectiveness as needed.
  • Hire, train and supervise all employees who work on the residential student services team, including graduate program specialist and graduate program advisor(s).
  • Create a cohesive team, supporting individuals and leading the residential programs in a student-focused culture. This may include implementing a mentor/mentee program.
Budgeting and Fiscal Management:
  • Work in collaboration with departmental Budget Manager to keep within programmatic budgetary goals and track student assistant hours to remain in budget.
  • Work with Faculty Director in development of new degree planning budgets.
  • Advocate for opportunities for growth and collaboration for the residential student services team.
Campus and Constituent Relationship Building:
  • Attend monthly and weekly staff/team meetings in the Data Science team and with other customers and set expectations for program goals and tracking important metrics and results.
  • Serve as liaison between Data Science and university collaborators such as the Registrar’s/Bursar’s Offices, CS, APPM, INFO.
  • Build relationships with campus partners to remain knowledgeable of Graduate School policies and policies that impact residential programs.
  • Engage with entities outside of the Graduate School to advocate for supporting residential student populations (ie. the Registrar’s Office, academic departments, the Alumni Association, etc.).
  • Maintain relationship with graduate program managers in collaborating departments.
  • Provide guidance for a student government association and assist in the planning of student events.
Marketing & Communication:
  • Implement strategies that are designed to grow and scale the residential MS-DS program while maintaining quality.
  • Manage communication plan with team members, such as the Office of Information Technology, Bursar’s Office, Registrar’s Office, campus recruiting, student services, marketing, and program success teams.
  • Implement and manage marketing strategies and tactics including but not limited to creating and hosting webinars, designing email nurture streams, display, banner and social media ads, conducting interviews, photography and creating videos for segmented audiences and determining deployment timetable.
  • Maintain the website for the residential program.
  • Decide which items to purchase and coordinate distribution of marketing swag/gift items.
  • Plan events to increase student enrollment and retention, and manage the direction of student collaboration and opportunities for those in the residential program.
  • Work closely with the Faculty Director and industry partners to seek opportunities of recruitment of residential students from industry as well as opportunities for industry partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the Data Science Faculty Director and other CU Boulder collaborators to evaluate marketing and communication strategies and modify as necessary.
  • Create and maintain methods of communication with the MS-DS on main campus students from the department and also so the students have avenues of communicating among themselves.
  • Develop marketing materials for distribution to prospective residential students, alumni, industry, and other customers.
Admissions Management:
  • Lead the admissions process and work with key academic departments to create additional bachelor's–accelerated master's (BAM) degree programs.
  • Collaborate with Grad Admissions to have recruitment at events/develop marketing materials.
Additional Opportunities & Specials Assignments:
  • Demonstrate a dedication to professional development and engagement by participating in professional associations, conferences, trainings, webinars, etc.
  • Assist with ad hoc assignments and special projects as assigned.
  • Document all processes and procedures including access and storage and makes it accessible to team members, while ensuring systems are set up for success.
  • Support the data science program with their events, talks, diversity and inclusion efforts and other projects as needed.
  • Provide assistance to users by troubleshooting issues with systems used using understanding of those systems.



What You Should Know

  • This position has a majority in-person work modality with hybrid work options available as projects allow.
  • This position requires ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary to provide support to residential students.
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to follow the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees are responsible for providing proof of vaccination or receiving a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.


What We Can Offer

  • The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $80,000 annually.
