Job Summary:

The College of Arts & Media, Visual Arts has an opening for a part-time Lecturer (unclassified) position. The continuance of this appointment will be based on merit/performance, budget, and enrollment numbers.

Position Emphasis/Nature of Work:

This posting will establish and maintain a pool of Lecturers for the Visual Arts Department in the College of Arts & Media. Candidates hired from this pool will fill temporary, non-tenure track positions and will teach no more than two courses per semester. Appointments will be part-time (less than 50%) and will be made semester-by-semester, depending on the needs of the department. Therefore, this posting does not necessarily reflect a current open position.

The Art History program in the Visual Arts Department seeks student-centered art historians to teach a wide range of online undergraduate art history courses. Our needs for online curriculum include introductory/survey courses and specialized upper-division offerings, based on the applicant's area of expertise and our program's needs, taught during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Teaching (100%) The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge in the history of art as well as the ability to teach one or more of the following subjects from our catalog in an online format:
  • Art History (global survey) I: Ancient to Medieval Art
  • Art History (global survey) II: Renaissance to Contemporary Art
  • Contemporary Art
  • History of Modern Design

We also welcome proposals for new online curriculum in the applicant's area of specialization, which may match upper-division courses in our catalog.
  • Lecturers are responsible for the preparation of course syllabi, lectures, presentations, and student assignments; evaluation of student work; tracking and progress of student attendance and engagement; management of course in online platform Canvas; etc.

Salary:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $5,000 per 3-credit semester course.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Art History or a related field (such as visual studies, architecture, museum studies, or a related discipline) from an accredited institution is required.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • PhD in Art History or a related field from an accredited institution.
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have a PhD in the history of art, visual studies, architecture, museum studies, or a related discipline.
    • Experience teaching at the university level.

    Candidates who are ABD in these fields will be considered, as will candidates with an MA and extensive, recent experience teaching at the university level.
