Job Summary:

The CU College of Nursing has an opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position as a Behavioral Health Program Director / Instructor / Senior Instructor / Assistant Professor (Open Rank) in the Non-Tenure Clinical Practice Track within its federally qualified community health center (FQHC), Sheridan Health Services (SHS), located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code: 80236). SHS encompasses three clinical sites (CU Family Health Clinic, CU Youth Health Clinic, and CU Belleview Point Health Clinic). This position is clinic based and includes dedicated effort for administrative duties. Faculty rank is based on experience and qualifications.

The Behavioral Health Program Director is part of the SHS senior management team and will uphold the SHS mission by assuring the delivery of high-quality integrated care services and the fiscal soundness of the organization by meeting productivity standards. This position serves in an advisory capacity making recommendations about primary care and behavioral health integration to improve service delivery and achieve improved health outcomes.

The position is responsible for the administrative and clinical management of psychiatric and behavioral health (BH) services provided at the Family Health Clinic, Youth Health Clinic, and Belleview Point Health Clinic.

Clinic Description:

SHS is a multi-site, nurse-managed FQHC, funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Primary Healthcare; and is a collaborative effort between the College of Nursing and the Sheridan School District. There are now 62 employees at three convenient locations to serve community health needs primarily for residents of Arapahoe, Denver, Adams, and Jefferson counties. The CU Youth Health Clinic is located in the Sheridan School District Administration building in Englewood, CO. The CU Belleview Point Health Clinic is located in southwest Aurora and the CU Family Health Clinic is located in southwest Denver on the Fort Logan campus and provides services to adults and children, 65% of whom identify as Latinx, and 42% of whom are best served in another language, with Spanish being the predominant second language. Services offered include primary care across the lifespan; prenatal and postpartum, gynecology, dentistry, pharmacy, behavioral health, and outpatient substance abuse treatment. SHS is a Patient-Centered Medical Home, and as such, we uphold a model of care that places the patient at the center, incorporating the values and beliefs of the patient in all decision-making. Program Management

Core responsibilities of the Behavioral Health Program Director include programmatic oversight for the creation, implementation, and management of clinical programs within the BH service line:
  1. Leads clinical quality strategies aimed at meeting clinical benchmarks for quality and productivity, ensuring high quality, culturally responsive patient care in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations in addition to grant requirements
  2. Establishes clinical goals utilizing a team approach for input and discussion
  3. Provides ongoing clinical staff development
  4. Works collaboratively with the Director of Finance & Administration to monitor revenue and fiscal expenditures
  5. Supervises BH providers, staff, and students
  6. Seeks opportunities for new revenue streams and responds to these as appropriate (e.g., grants, contracts, managed care contracts, governmental relations, etc.)
  7. Collaborates with leadership on strategic planning and implementation.

Clinical Care

The Behavioral Health Program Director will provide a portion of total effort in direct care to patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintains Electronic Health Record documentation in compliance with accepted standards, in keeping with the Policies & Procedures of the clinic. Must meet rigorous standards for documentation, completion of clinical notes, referral processing and follow-up in a timely manner.

  • Compliance

    The Behavioral Health Program Director will be responsible for audit and compliance activities to ensure that behavioral health services and standards follow all state, federal, and CU regulations, in addition to contractual requirements associated with payers and funders, in collaboration with leadership team.
  • This position will ensure compliance with third party reimbursement and client fee collections. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinates quarterly peer review processes to assure accurate record documentation
  • Serves on the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee and assures that program staff are knowledgeable of required QA activities and participates in improvement monitoring specific to clinical performance.
  • Maintains all necessary licenses, certifications, credentialing materials and other required documents as outlined by the Office of Clinical and Community Affairs at the College of Nursing.

  • Community Engagement

    The Behavioral Health Program Director will participate in community outreach for the purpose of increasing access to care, reducing barriers to treatment, and advancing the mission and vision of SHS. The Behavioral Health Program Director will be responsible for establishing and maintaining community partnerships.

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.

    In addition to the annual salary for this position, an annual administrative stipend of $10,000/year will also be offered.

  • Conditions of employment:

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Five (5) years' post-graduate experience providing direct patient care services
    • Experience working in a primary care or school-based health center setting using a brief model of service delivery
    • Experience utilizing bilingual skills (Spanish/English) at a conversation level in a clinical setting
    • Credentialed as a certified addiction specialist (CAS) or licensed addiction counselor (LAC)
    • Experience as a preceptor/clinical supervisor of students and/or behavioral health trainees and interns
    • Experience using behavioral health interventions to treat chronic diseases

    Competencies:
    • Knowledge of program planning concepts, principles, and practices with a focus on building and maintaining a system of integrated care that supports patient needs.
    • Knowledge of the cultural, social, and economic background of the diverse populations served and the impact of cultural values and beliefs in their health status.
    • Leadership ability to establish program goals and objectives and to assess programs toward their achievement; ability to handle administration of multiple program sites assuring efficiency in service delivery and program communication.
    • Ability to work independently with willingness to take initiative in addressing concerns and issues for desired outcomes.
    • Knowledge of requirements for providing clinical program oversight.

    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of primary care-behavioral health integrated programs, including fundamental elements of co-located and/or fully integrated services, and familiarity with population-based interventions
    • Demonstrated ability to practice and lead from a social justice lens, with a commitment to cultural responsiveness and diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • Ability to navigate program compliance and audits, and to manage billing and reporting
    • Ability to use computer and clinic software, and to document in EHR, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
    • Medical literacy, as demonstrated by familiarity with common medical terms, first-line psychiatric medications, understanding of medical culture, and with interdisciplinary treatment teams.
    • Ability to collect and analyze data for reporting.
    • Ability to establish & achieve productivity expectations for self and team.
