Position Details:

The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor. This is a temporary, career-track; 9-month appointment; with optional summer month(s) supplement appointment. The position is located at the WSU Health Sciences campus in Spokane, WA.

This position has an initial two (2) year contract which is expected to be extended. Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance and mutual consent.

Summary of Duties:

Primary responsibilities include: (1) clinical supervision of students serving the pediatric population, (2) assessment and treatment of clients (3) teaching graduate or undergraduate course/s (4) participating on student research committees, (5) service to the department, university, and discipline.

The position will have a start date of August 16, 2023.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned M.S., M.A., or PhD in speech-language pathology or closely related field prior to hire date of August 16, 2023.
  • Demonstrated expertise and ability to teach speech language preparatory courses
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and eligible for Washington State license.
  • Documented ability to teach, and a history of positive interaction with and mentoring of students from diverse backgrounds.


THE UNIVERSITY

The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences is part of the College of Medicine and is in the heart of the inland northwest on the Washington State University Health Sciences Campus in Spokane. The Health Sciences Building, on the Spokane River near downtown Spokane, houses a state-of-the-art clinic in affiliation with Range Community Clinic, academic, and research facilities. Opportunities for outdoor recreation abound, including world-class mountaineering, rafting, fishing, backpacking, camping, mountain biking, etc. Within easy reach are multiple mountain ranges, numerous lakes, large rivers, and national and state parks.

Annual Salary: $72,000-80,000 commensurate with qualifications (9-month salary)

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
