Departmental Overview

The Basic Needs Center acts as a virtual and physical hub that provides and connects students to essential services that impact health, belonging, and overall well-being. The Basic Needs Center team is committed to fostering belonging and justice on the UC Berkeley campus through a robust model that includes education, prevention & emergency relief programs in the core areas of basic needs: food security, housing security & financial stability.

Responsibilities
    Leads campus CalFresh program and policy efforts by developing and coordinating CalFresh program communications, formulating strategies for scaling enrollment, and guiding the strategic plan. Assists with the recruitment, hiring, training, and advisement of student employees, interns, and volunteers for the CalFresh program. Assists with the development of the service-learning curriculum for student staff, interns, and volunteers. Provides assistance with student staff supervision in collaboration with the student staff leads. Oversees CalFresh outreach and application programming including scheduling, staffing, and logistics. Develops and maintains data tracking and collection for 1) the CHC CalFresh Contract, 2) to assess and understand current barriers in CalFresh and other social services access and enrollment, including developing and administering new systems, policies, processes, and programs, and 3) to inform advocacy efforts. Provides in-depth, complex analyses as a specialist in the CalFresh program. Case management and support for case escalation for more complex social services cases. Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the UC Berkeley student community utilization of local social services, including but not limited to CalWORKS, Medi-Cal, and CalFresh.

Required Qualifications
    Advanced abilities in project management, problem identification, and reasoning skills. Advanced ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with a diverse group of individuals and stakeholders. Advanced skills in judgment and decision-making, problem-solving, identifying measures of system performance, and the actions to improve performance. Advanced ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to interpret, organize and present information, ideas, and recommendations in a variety of written and verbal formats. Ability to research, interpret and take action based on an understanding of complex policies and procedures. Ability to provide direction and oversight to student staff. Advanced public speaking skills and ability to present information to diverse groups of individuals and stakeholders. Knowledge of Social Services specialization.

Education/Training:
    Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Training:
    Master's degree and/or equivalent experience/training preferred.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $67,000.00 - $80,000.00.
    This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is exempt and paid monthly. This is a hybrid position, eligible for 20% remote capability.
