About Us

The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

Job Summary

Manage a team of highly skilled system administrators which provides production enterprise services to the entire University System of Georgia. Do hands-on architect-level system administration as needed. Collaborate and communicate with leadership, other teams, and vendors. Enjoy learning and collaborating. Explore and implement new processes, products, and technologies. Foster and model a culture of continuous improvement, for people and technology. Manage projects. Do multi-year planning of projects, cost models, and expenses.

Responsibilities
  • Manage people, including regular guidance, feedback, and 1:1 meetings
  • Coordinate and manage projects, including cross-team projects
  • Hands-on system administration
  • Lead and contribute to research and development of new technologies and tools
  • Evaluate vendor proposals for software, services, and hardware.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to University System of Georgia member institutions
  • Frequent communication with leadership, including regular status updates on projects
  • High-level, multi-year project and expense planning
  • Yearly performance evaluations
  • Ensure all systems are reliable, robust, up-to-date, secure, and follow best practices
  • Participate in on call pager rotation, respond to emergencies after hours
  • Related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Experience managing or leading a team of system administrators
  • A minimum of five years of experience managing servers and services in a production environment
  • Experience working with a team of system administrators
  • System administration expertise in Linux and/or Windows
  • Expertise in industry best practices
  • High-level understanding, and expertise in managing multiple production enterprise services
  • Experience with architecture and large system design
  • Experience managing virtualized environments
  • Knowledge of application protocols, advanced networking, and multi-tier application architecture
  • Experience with high-availability design, including disaster recovery
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed
