Description


The Accountant is responsible for all aspects of the Banking, agency funds and cash management for the Rowan College of South Jersey Gloucester Campus.

Examples of Duties

  • Coordinates cash management activities, including preparation of cash flow statements, investment of surplus cash, preparation of fund transfers, and reconciliation of all College bank accounts to the balances listed in the general ledger accounts.
  • Prepares cash drawdowns of financial aid funds with the required reporting.
  • Manages all non-student billings.
  • Assists in the preparation of the College’s annual financial statements and assists the external auditors, as needed.
  • Provides backup in Accounts Payable including but not limited to daily edit review and positive pay submission to bank.
  • Coordinates all aspects of accounting for capital projects. Works directly with the Vice President to ensure all college projects are properly accounted for in the general ledger within the established budget that was approved. Submits all necessary paperwork to the County and State for applicable reimbursements.
  • Responsible for all aspects of accounting for the college Agency Funds including but not limited to student activities.
  • Processes all non-student checks that are received by the college.
  • Prepares required documentation to assist with annual audit.
  • Prepare documentation for External Auditors.
  • Analyzes financial statements for discrepancies and alert the CFO if necessary
  • Coordinates semi-annual audits and assist the CFO in running audits.
  • Reconciles accounts monthly to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience applicable experience required. Accounting experience in educational setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with a Higher Education Software, Ellucian or Anthology preferred.
  • Experience with automated accounting system
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners in large and small settings.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment.
