University of Maryland- Medicine Institute for Neuroscience Discovery (UM-MIND) is a new institute dedicated to probing the bounds of what can be known about the brain and how this knowledge can be translated into treatments for diseases that disrupt so many lives. This institute builds on a long history of excellence in neuroscience at the University of Maryland Baltimore and harnesses the power of that excellence across a dozen basic science and clinical departments by physically and intellectually linking clinically applied and foundational neuroscience to solve the most pressing problems impacting our Maryland communities and beyond e.g., mental health, neurodegenerative disorders, brain injury, stroke. The newly formed University of Maryland- Medicine Institute for Neuroscience Discovery (UM-MIND) is seeking a Program Manager to join our dynamic team of clinical and laboratory researchers performing cutting edge research in neuroscience.The Program Manager will collaborate closely with and act as a liaison between the UM-MIND Director, the UM-MIND faculty, staff, and trainees, other key parties at UMB, external collaborators, leadership groups, subcontractors, vendors, and the NIH technical and grants management teams. Additional responsibilities include tracking resource utilization; reviewing staffing needs; ensuring university, federal, state and NIH compliance; working closely with the finance team; and monthly and annual reporting as required by the sponsor. Familiarity with neuroscience and a knowledge of NIH grants management mechanisms from the perspective of an academic center is helpful. Primary Duties:
- Set goals and create tactics in cooperation with the Institute Director to achieve program objectives. Manage budget, including approving finances, tracking expenditures, identify variances and resolve, and preparing reports on current finances. Plan and coordinate events and daily activities of the Institute. Create and maintain communications strategies for UM-MIND. Manage faculty recruitment and new faculty member transitions. Coordinate and assist in training programs for faculty, employees, and trainees. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; PhD in STEM field preferred.
Experience: Four (4) years of program oversight including program planning, budget, and coordination. Prefer experience in shared governance, leadership, program planning, communication and marketing, grant writing and management, and scientific writing and publishing.
Other: Familiarity with the scientific lexicon of the neurosciences is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
