About the Department:

SMU’s Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering, founded in 1925, is one of the oldest engineering schools in the Southwest. The school offers eight undergraduate and 29 graduate programs, including master’s and doctoral degrees, through the departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical and Computer Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and Operations Research and Engineering Management. Lyle students participate in programs in the unique Deason Innovation Gym, providing the tools and space to work on immersion design projects and competitions to accelerate leadership development and the framework for innovation; the Hart Center for Engineering Leadership, helping students develop nontechnical skills to prepare them for leadership in diverse technical fields; the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education, developing new methodologies for incorporating engineering education into K-12 schools; and the Hunter and Stephanie Hunt Institute for Engineering and Humanity, combining technological innovation with business expertise to address global poverty.

About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

This position contributes to and implements the strategy to attract and recruit high-quality candidates for the Lyle School of Engineering. The responsibilities include: targeted, focused recruitment of graduate and international students, data analysis and knowledge of enrollment trends. The Associate Director is also responsible for developing and growing prospective student pools, outbound calls to encourage enrollment, attending recruitment fairs, organizing and hosting graduate events both on and off-campus, exhibiting at student conferences, and coordinating with department chairs, program directors and department contacts to fulfill student recruitment needs. Maintains relationships with international agents, keeps a schedule of graduate appointments, returns graduate e-mails and calls, provides back-up with other recruitment programs when needed, assists with staff assignments, as needed, serves as point person in cases when the director is unavailable and provides regular progress reports & updates.

Essential Functions:

    Creates and manages targeted, focused recruitment of graduate and international students, extensive data analysis and knowledge of enrollment trends, developing high-caliber prospective student pools, outbound calls to encourage enrollment from both pools of potential candidates as well as prospective students and attends recruitment fairs. 

    Plans, implements and delivers graduate recruitment events including on-site admission decision events. Exhibits at conventions and conferences, and holds information sessions for prospective students. Collaborates with the Director of Recruiting and Director of Marketing on presentations and other recruitment materials to fit the recruitment plan. 

    Cultivates relationships with internal and external partners to grow graduate enrollment. Coordinates with department chairs, program directors, and department contacts to address student recruitment needs and develops collaborative plans to fulfill those needs. Maintains relationships with international agents and other community partners.

    Acts as backup for other recruitment programs when needed and assists with staff assignments. Serves as point person for recruiting office when the director is unavailable and other duties as assigned.

    Communicates directly with prospective students, applicants and admits via appointments, calls, mail and e-mail.  Shares information concerning the programs and admissions processes, assists students in finding their "best fit" program and yields students to matriculation.

    Responsible for preparation of data and metrics analysis to include reporting, updating databases and tracking related to student recruitment. Using appropriate data, conducts strategic planning to identify and target new audiences for prospective students, collaborates with the Director of Recruiting to develop a strategic recruitment plan for graduate and international recruitment and performs continuous improvement process loop to update recruitment activities and plan year over year.

    Evening/weekend hours will be required for recruitment activities. 



Qualifications
Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred. 

Five years of work experience is required. Experience working in an institute of higher education in admissions, recruitment or student affairs is required. Experience working with diverse populations is strongly preferred. Experience in university recruiting role strongly preferred. Experience in data analysis, strategic planning and recruitment planning is a plus. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of constituencies. A strong customer service attitude is essential. This position requires candidates to possess strong written communication skills, including proper usage of grammar and punctuation, as well as the ability to produce error-free communications. Candidate must also be skilled in identifying complex problems and devising solutions.  

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.  

Candidate must be able to travel (including international travel) as needed. 

Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and presentation application software (i.e. PowerPoint, Prezi, Google Slide). 

Candide must be skilled in CRM and Student Information Systems. 

Candidate knowledge of PeopleSoft and/or Slate is strongly preferred.
