Maintenance Assistant
GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the supervision of the Marine Maintenance Technician, the MBAC Maintenance Assistant will perform equipment and facility repairs and maintenance as needed.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



Primary Functions
  • Inspect equipment and immediately report safety and usability issues
  • Assist with a wide range of marine equipment preventative maintenance and repairs including fiberglass repairs, aquatic sports equipment repairs, outboard and inboard maintenance and repairs, and painting
  • Assist with cleaning, preventive maintenance, and repairs of building fixtures and equipment
  • Assist in light custodial and cleaning tasks
  • Maintain maintenance records and respond to maintenance work order requests
  • Other maintenance, custodial, and administrative tasks as assigned



Customer Service and Collaboration
  • Works closely with other MBAC Maintenance Assistants to complete various maintenance tasks and assignments
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with other MBAC departments



Safety
  • Ensures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first priority and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies
  • Adheres to the Associated Students and MBAC Codes of Safe Practices
  • Reports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrence
  • Reports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party immediately
Minimum Requirements
Minimum & Preferred Requirements

Education:
  • High School Diploma



Experience:
  • Must be familiar with the use of basic hand and power tools
  • Prior watersports equipment and/or mechanical maintenance experience is preferred



License & Certification Requirements
  • Red Cross CPR & First Aid (must be obtained within the first month of employment)
  • US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling (must be obtained within the first month of employment)
  • FBI, DOJ, and LiveScan fingerprint clearance
  • Current valid Driver's License

  • Must be able to quickly adapt and learn new skills in order to perform the responsibilities of the position

  • Continually work toward improving technical skills
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team player



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Good interpersonal skills; ability to relate and communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, colleagues and guests required
  • Strong organizational skills required
  • Must have strong English language skills and the ability to read, write and verbally communicate at a level appropriate to the duties of the position
  • Ability to operate a computer and ability to learn and utilize new software programs
  • Must have good critical thinking skills, a willingness to help others, and a strong desire to learn a wide variety of skills
  • Must be experienced in the use of basic hand and power tools



SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS



This is a part-time position. Flexibility and willingness to work long hours including weekends with high demand during summer.

EMPLOYMENT CATEGORY: Part Time, Range II, Step I - Starting Rate: $16.80/hour



A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with Associated Students.
