- Motivated to mentor students in undergraduate researchEngage and monitor students as they perform research techniques in biology, chemistry, and microbiologyCollaborate and work with PI and co-PI on the development and implementation of lab activities, needs, and equipmentPrepare equipment and supplies, design, set up and coordinate activities for lab course including but not limited to preparing bacterial media, maintaining bacterial strains, decontamination and proper dispose of biological waste, maintaining clean dishware, chemical extraction, PCR, analysis of DNA sequencingOversee weekly lab operationsOrder and maintain suppliesAssist in identifying summer research experiences for S-STEM student recipientsPerform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assignedTroubleshoot problems
- Basic knowledge of microbiology and chemistry techniquesProblem-solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skillsDemonstrate commitment to promoting inclusiveness and cultural competence; experience working with underrepresented students and students from at-risk backgrounds.
- Bachelor's degree or pursuing a Master's degree in Microbiology with knowledge of Chemistry.
- May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.Must reach, bend, stoop, liftMust sit, walk or standSome repetitive motion may be required
- 12-month appointment0.5 fulltime equivalent (FTE) hoursIn-person position on the Mount Mary University campusVarying workflow; sometimes stressful with high workload times of the yearComplete work required on schedule
