Assistant Professor, Computer Systems Engineering Technology

The Computer Systems Engineering Technology (CSET) Department is searching for a full-time tenure-track appointment for our Portland-Metro Campus (Wilsonville, OR). We are hoping to find someone that can grow into the position of department coordinator for our Portland-Metro programs.

A qualified applicant should have a strong background in C++ as that is our department’s primary language. As a small department, faculty are expected to teach freshman through senior level classes. This individual would be expected to cover classes from some of the following areas: design patterns, software engineering methodologies, project management, Linux system programming, compilers, or cloud computing. To be clear, we are not expecting one individual with all of these skill sets but these are the areas where we could use some additional help.

The primary job duties for this position are teaching, advising, scholarship, and service. Scholarship may include but is not limited to the publication of scholarly works, collaboration with industrial partners, student-oriented applied research and internal/external grant writing. Institutional service may include advising, on-campus committee membership and participation in departmental initiatives.

Oregon Tech’s Computer Systems Engineering Technology Department is committed to inclusive thought and action in support of our diverse community. Individuals from historically underrepresented groups and all those who share our commitment to inclusivity and passion for the strength of our diversity are strongly encouraged to apply.

Department Information:

The mission of the Computer Systems Engineering Technology (CSET) Department is to prepare students for productive engineering careers in the fields of computer engineering, embedded systems engineering. Our graduates are in high demand in industry because employers recognize that our students come prepared to be immediately productive as a member of their organization. This is one of the reasons our employment rates for all CSET programs are over 95%, with most students having job offers months before graduation.

Our department has a “family” atmosphere where students and faculty work collaboratively for students to achieve their educational goals. We believe strongly in the hands-on education learning model that Oregon Tech is famous for. Most CSET courses have a lab component built into the course. In addition, all of the bachelor programs in the CSET department have two project sequences: Junior Projects – a three-term team based project and Senior Projects – a three-term individual project.

Our degrees are currently called “Engineering Technology” degrees. This is largely for historic reasons since we are an Institute of Technology. Our students are fully trained to do engineering work and they are placed in engineering roles when they graduate. It is an exciting time to join the department as we are active seeking to expand our degree offerings.
