Research Program Manager
The Community Child and Family Mental Health Preventive Interventions Group in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is seeking a Research Program Manager who will work in collaboration with multiple Principal Investigators within Johns Hopkins University and at partner institutions and will set the direction of projects within a large program with multiple community-based research and intervention projects and will have overall managerial responsibilities for individual project teams and fiscal oversight for their assigned projects.

The Research Program Manager will be expected to operate independently, with guidance and supervision provided by faculty Principal Investigators; in addition, clinical intervention and research landscape, including creative implementation solutions to increase access to mental health interventions. Leading the coordination of projects with community stakeholders, including within school and early childhood education settings and pediatric primary care practices.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Involved in scientific discussions with collaborators, Principal Investigators, and funding organizations, and have the authority to make independent decisions about research aims and study design.
  • Provide support and guidance to research groups and assist Principal Investigators in submitting grant applications, IRB applications, and progress reports.
  • Will present research details to investigative teams, end-users (faculty, staff, community members, families, and staff in education/early childhood education), and subject-matter experts.
  • Work with multi-site study investigators and their project teams to help them meet project targets and milestones (ensure timely and accurate submission to IRBs, sponsors, and master agreements)
  • Building and maintaining strong, trusting relationships with a variety of stakeholders (including intervention participants from vulnerable populations) is critical.
  • Responsible for managing investigator and stakeholder relationships.
  • Lead the organization and implementation of public outreach, public presentations, and development of the public-facing website and social media content to communicate about project opportunities and activities as needed.
  • Execute project management processes and methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on time and within the budget, adhere to high-quality standards, and benefit the investigative teams by ensuring smooth implementation of new projects from conception through completion.
  • Responsible for assembling project plans, team, and work assignments, directing and monitoring work efforts on a daily basis, identifying resource needs, performing quality reviews, and escalating functional, quality, and timeline issues appropriately.
  • Responsible for tracking grant proposals and other documentation through signature/approval processes then through collaboration with Contracts personnel and IRB Navigators.
  • Serve a critical role as liaison, facilitate meetings between project stakeholders and leadership, complete and maintain professional documentation for projects and deliverables, develop SOPs as needed, and assist in the auditing and monitoring of studies.
  • Use professional judgment in handling information and be sensitive to the project team, individual, and all levels of organizational concerns; make use of data, quantitative and qualitative analysis to drive decision making; and help investigators develop new insights and understanding of performance-based data.
  • Assist with the adaptation and delivery of evidence-based preventive mental health interventions with vulnerable populations, with oversight from principal investigators and intervention developers.
  • Will be expected to stay current with a constantly changing clinical intervention and research landscape, including creative implementation solutions to increase access to and engagement in mental health interventions.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Background and experience in research protection, federal and regulatory issues, research ethics, regulatory compliance, use of centralized/single IRBs, and project management at the task level.
  • Training and experience with implementing evidence-based preventive interventions for families with young children.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to negotiate and work collaboratively.
  • Service-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both oral and written forms
  • Excellent negotiation, facilitation, consensus-building, and diplomacy skills.
  • Knowledge of formal project management methodologies.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Ability to make independent judgments and to act on decisions on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work for long periods of time without direction.
  • Ability to prioritize own work and the work of others as needed.
  • Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously and to meet various concurrent deadlines.
  • Very strong organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects independently and work constructively as part of a team.
  • Will assist with the coordination of activities with teams in other institutions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with intervention implementation.


Supervisory Responsibility
  • One senior Research Program Coordinator.
  • Two to five Research Program Coordinators, and 2-5 undergraduate and graduate students as appropriate (varies by semester and student need).


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • Experience: 5 years related experience. Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Spanish Language fluency (written and spoken) strongly preferred as Spanish-speaking families will be the primary target of community engagement and project recruitment and implementation efforts.
  • Related Master's preferred.
