Merced College is a midsized community college located in California's Central Valley. Founded in 1962, the College serves more than 16,000 students annually with room to expand on its 267-acre main Merced campus and 120 acre Los Banos campus site. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to build the program alongside the Dean of Instruction at the Los Banos Campus and discipline faculty from Merced.     General Description: This is a full-time, tenure track instructional assignment at Merced College Los Banos Campus under the general direction of the Dean of Instruction at the Los Banos Campus. The professor will teach a variety of Computer Technology & Information Systems courses. The specific mix of teaching assignments will vary from semester to semester. The standard teaching load is 15 units per semester, which may include evening and weekend hours.

    Career Technical Education Area: Offers programs that focus on training for short-term certificates geared toward job placement as well as associate and transfer degrees. CTE disciplines include Agriculture, Industrial Technology, Business, Computer Science, and Management, among others. Area courses offer students a solid foundation for exploring these and other areas of study.

    Examples of Duties

  • Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and established course outlines and expectations
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies and maintain regular and substantive contact with students
  • Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholastic records on the Learning Management System (e.g. grades and syllabi)
  • Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade class assignments and examinations
  • Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods
  • Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
  • Participate in the development and review of curriculum
  • Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials
  • Participate in departmental, area, and campus professional activities/committees
  • Represent the college within the Merced community and within professional circles
  • Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments
  • Assist in growing the program through community outreach to employers and through outreach events


  • Typical Qualifications
    Required:
  • Any Bachelor's degree from an acceptable accredited institution AND two (2) years of professional experience in computer information systems or related area OR
  • Any Associate degree from an acceptable accredited institution AND six (6) years professional experience in computer information systems or related area OR
  • The equivalent
  • Candidate must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

  • Preferred:
  • Experience teaching courses in Computer Technology & Information Systems
  • Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments
  • Industry experience in cybersecurity or cloud computing is desirable
  • Teaching experience in beginning and intermediate level cloud computing, cybersecurity and computer networking
  • Hold industry-recognized cyber certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CySA+, PenTest+ or CCNA Security

  • Knowledge of:
    • Knowledge of and experience in networking
    • Working knowledge of could computing services (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure).
    Ability to:
    • Ability and willingness to teach all levels of experience
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Ability to maintain subject matter currency
    • Demonstrate commitment to student learning and to the success of all students in the inclusive learning environment of a community college
    • Work with Latinx, African American, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and willingness to use culturally responsive instructional practices

    Interview Information:
