Job Summary:
The department head is the first-line administrator of thedepartment to which they are assigned. The incumbent is responsible for allissues related to department operation, such as curriculum, budget, personnel,class schedules, and student rights and responsibilities. The department headmust actively recruit and mentor majors, serve on faculty committees, andperform other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:- Teach 12 credit hours (or equivalent) with 3 hours credit release time each fall and spring semester.
- Supervise and direct all credit courses, degree/certificate granting programs of the department.
- Ensure teaching activities are compliant with accrediting bodies and governmental regulations, including but not limited to USDA.
- Perform medical and husbandry procedures on various domestic species.
- Responsible for coordination or performance of routine surgical and other commonly accepted veterinary procedures on common domestic species as they pertain to the Veterinary Technology curriculum.
- Required to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters related to sensitive material.
- Has responsibility to make recommendations to the Division Head regarding hiring, training, evaluating, official reprimands, and terminating employees.
- Supervise the development/distribution of department publications.
- Coordinate development of an appropriate and efficient class schedule each semester.
- Coordinate, develop, and participate in the recruitment activities for the department.
- Coordinate student advising and counseling activities related to program enrollment and degree completion.
- Assist in the review of transcripts of transferring students. Conduct degree audits to monitor student performance, and provide preliminary graduation check information to Registrar.
- Coordinate with transfer institutions in the articulation of courses and/or degree programs.
- Develop a proposed budget for submission to the Division Head and recommend all budget expenditures to the Division Head.
- Assist with requests for supplies, equipment needs, repairs and similar program-related support.
- Coordinate the recruitment, selection, and recommendation of adjunct faculty and actively participate in the selection of full-time faculty.
- Develop and monitor faculty teaching loads.
- Evaluate faculty and staff.
- Supervise textbook selection for all courses.
- Supervise implementation of institutional guidelines for retention
- Supervise implementation of assessment model.
- Coordinate and maintain current course syllabi for program-related coursework.
- Develop assessment plan in coordination with faculty and submit required assessment data and departmental information for program reviews and other institutional reports.
- Coordinate active advisory committee for degree programs.
- Establish and maintain effective cooperation and coordination with all other divisions, departments, and support units on campus.
- Supervise the planning and development of continuing education courses, workshops, and/or programs.
- Remain current with theory and practice in the profession, coordinate and monitor professional growth activities for faculty and staff.
- Participate in professional organizations.
- Actively serve on campus committees.
- Participate in and support institutional activities.
- Fulfill all faculty requirements as noted in the Faculty Handbook.
- Completes all mandatory training and participated in RPT recommended level of professional development each year.
- Perform other assigned duties.

Associates Degree in Science in Veterinary Technology or relatedfield of study
Licenses/Certifications:
Licensed Registered Veterinary Technician in the State of Oklahoma Must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.Work Experience:
- Must be qualified to teach and provide leadership in degree program.Total of three (3) years of college-level teaching, or equivalent experience
Minimum of three years of professional practice.Minimum of one year of successful management experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Teaching Competence – Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; able to assess student learning and progress.Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English and prepare complex reports on deadline; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.Ability to manage multiple priorities imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, and public/student contact.Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), as well as email, internet, and learning management systems.Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations.Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years of successful administrative experience.Five or more years of professional experience in veterinary medicine in a clinical setting.Four or more years of teaching at the post-secondary level.Two or more scientific subjects taught at the post-secondary level.Comfort level working with all commonly encountered domestic and exotic animal species.Bachelors degree up to Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from an AVMA accredited program.Eligible for DEA Licensure.
- Must not be adversely affected by (allergic or sensitive to) formaldehyde, any commonly used veterinary formulations or any commonly encountered domestic species to the extent that such allergy/sensitivity would impair job performance.Must be tuberculosis negative and agree to annual tuberculosis testing at own expense.Must be rabies vaccinated (assuming Human Pre-exposure Vaccine is available) and maintain routine titer checks and obtain booster vaccines as necessary or agree to sign a waiver of liability.Must be able to work outdoors in typical environmental conditions (rain, heat, cold, wind) with appropriate personal protective equipment.Must be able to work in a noisy environment with appropriate personal protective equipment.Must be able to work with and restrain a variety of animals including dogs, cats, cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, birds, reptiles, and lab animals.Must be comfortable working with large groups of people and/or animals.Will require occasional evenings, and weekends. May require occasional travel with overnight stays.May be occasional changes in work schedule due to participation in public relations, outreach, student advisement, and other campus activities.Must be flexible to occasional changes in work schedule.Individual may be required to work weekends and/or special events outside of normal working hours.Off-campus sites are utilized for many laboratory exercises within the curriculum. Instructor of these labs is expected to transport students, when necessary, to these sites.Instruction of required essential skills may involve the use of preserved specimens, radiography equipment, anesthetics, medications, sharp objects, and a variety of animal species. The instructor is expected to safely and properly handle all of the above.
