INTRODUCTION

The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor at the UConn Waterbury campus, starting on August 23, 2023. The position is a nine-month, non-tenure track appointment. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching seven undergraduate courses or the equivalent. Specific courses are likely to include close relationships, parenthood, adolescent development, research methods, and electives in the faculty member’s area of expertise.

Founded in 1881, UConn is a Land Grant and Sea Grant institution and member of the Space Grant Consortium. It is the state’s flagship institution of higher education and includes a main campus in Storrs, CT, four regional campuses throughout the state, and 13 Schools and Colleges, including a Law School in Hartford, and Medical and Dental Schools at the UConn Health campus in Farmington. The UConn Waterbury campus is home to over 1,000 students, and HDFS is one of ten majors that students can complete at the Waterbury campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree (or equivalent foreign degree) completed in human development and family sciences, psychology, sociology, or another relevant discipline by position start date.
  • Teaching experience or demonstrated capacity to teach courses with documentation of a commitment to teaching.
  • The ability to contribute through teaching to the diversity and excellence of the Department.
  • Effective communication skills (both written and oral).
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching courses relevant to close relationships, parenthood, adolescent development, and/or research methods.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to teaching and/or mentoring a diverse student population.
  • APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a one-year, full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2023. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Waterbury campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
