JOB SUMMARY

The UConn Library seeks a collaborative and proactive individual to serve as the Research Services Librarian for disciplines within and associated with the natural, environmental, and life sciences subject areas. Reporting to the Head of Research Services, the Research Services Librarian connects UConn Library collections, services, and spaces to UConn community students, faculty, and staff in support of research, scholarship, teaching, and learning at UConn and in the State of Connecticut. The Research Services Librarian engages in outreach and communication with students and faculty and contributes to the advancement of the UConn Library through collaborating with colleagues, partnering with stakeholders, and engaging with Library-wide initiatives in support of life-transformative education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serves as research librarian for disciplines within the natural, environmental, life sciences, and associated subject areas. Including, but not limited to, the Departments of Animal Science, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Natural Resources and the Environment, Pathobiology and Veterinary Science, Plant Science, and other areas such as Environmental Sciences and UConn Extension programs.
• Provides liaison services including, but not limited to, research support, in-depth research consultations, and participation in UConn Library’s live chat service.
• Engages in outreach to students and faculty to align and integrate the UConn Library into curricular and co-curricular efforts.
• Designs and teaches library instructional sessions, including subject-based information literacy instruction and subject-based writing classes.
• Incorporates principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice into services, programs, and collections related to the work of the position.
• Advances library services in assigned liaison areas related to environmental sustainability and other related strategic areas of growth at UConn.
• Participates in collections management across the lifecycle, including collection development, maintenance, and assessment in collaboration with Collections & Discovery colleagues.
• Ability and willingness to build a working knowledge of scholarly communication ecosystems.
• Contributes to digital scholarship efforts at the UConn Library.
• Communicates and collaborates with UConn Library colleagues and stakeholders across all units and campuses to explore and meet stakeholder needs and advance UConn Library efforts.
• Engages in professional development and continuing education and is active in professional associations related to the work of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

For Appointment as a Librarian 1

1. A graduate-level degree in a field relevant to the position or a graduate degree in library and information science from an American Library Association-accredited institution (or an international equivalent).
2. Demonstrated knowledge of research and information resources in the life and natural sciences.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy and teaching principles and ability to provide information literacy instruction.
4. Demonstrated ability to make positive contributions to a culture of inclusion and respect in all interactions within the Library and across the University.
5. Demonstrated ability to be successful in outreach and engagement efforts.
6. Demonstrated ability to align current library tools, services, and opportunities to support learning, research, publications, and scholarship among stakeholders.
7. Demonstrated public service skills and a strong commitment to customer service.
8. Evidence of reliable, effective, and professional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, primarily onsite position based on the UConn Storrs campus. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary and rank are dependent upon education, qualifications, and experience. Alternate Work Arrangements including a hybrid schedule are potentially available subject to authorization and University policy.
