JOB SUMMARY

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and UConn’s Vergnano Institute for Inclusion (VII) are seeking applicants for a joint full-time staff position, Educational Program Administrator, dedicated to developing faculty and University educators’ inclusive teaching and mentoring practices.

Under the direction of CETL’s Director of Teaching and Learning Assessment, this position will provide leadership, programmatic, and logistical support for UConn’s activities as part of a national networked learning community funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The community is exploring how to foster, promote, and evaluate inclusive teaching in a way that will positively shape faculty practices so that all students succeed and feel a sense of belonging, inclusion, support, and purpose in STEM.

Under the guidance of VII’s Executive Director, the successful applicant will develop and direct the Inclusive Excellence Program: Justice, Equity, and Transformation (Inclusive JET) for faculty in the School of Engineering. There will be shared curricular elements from CETL’s learning community, as well as responsibilities for new faculty mentoring, grant writing support, and broadening participation activities for VII.

Candidates with demonstrated experience in facilitating learning of faculty groups related to equitable teaching are highly encouraged to apply.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as program representative to potential applicants, current students, and the general public.
  • Serves as a liaison between the program and other University offices, external organizations, and the public.
  • Advises and assists on the full range of complex administrative and business matters related to programs, events, and activities.
  • Serves as a principal source of information regarding the interpretation and application of policies and regulations governing CETL and/or VII activities and programs such as the Inclusive JET.
  • Establishes internal operating procedures and makes changes as needed to improve efficiency or effectiveness.
  • Collaborates on grant accounting and fiscal record keeping in accordance with standard accounting practice.
  • Compiles data and information from a variety of sources to generate and prepare narrative and informational reports, including literature and resources on equity minded teaching and teaching documentation.
  • Engages in public relations and promotional activities. Facilitates and assists in planning meetings, conferences, and events. Assists with communications, e.g. via website, promotional material, or newsletters.
  • Designs and evaluates activities and program implementation for faculty or teaching support (i.e. faculty-TA interactions).
  • For VII, leads writing or editing faculty grants, particularly the broadening participation sections.
  • Maintains accurate records and preparation of data for progress reports and dissemination.
  • Keeps current on equitable practices.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of related experience as an administrative coordinator or program support, including one year of experience as an advanced team member.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or supporting university faculty in their professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience managing fiscal records and accounting practices related to grants and reporting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and planning skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, experience engaging multiple stakeholders, and developing effective team relationships.
  • Commitment to inclusive and equity minded practices.
  • Experience in facilitating groups with diverse needs and backgrounds in remote environments (e.g., Webex or MS Teams).
  • Excellent skills in MS Office and related software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated engagement in organizational learning and initiatives related to equitable teaching and pedagogy, but teaching experience not required.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing or supporting broadening participation efforts.
  • Familiarity with financial management software, such as UConn’s Kuali system.
  • 2 years of professional experience in STEM initiatives management in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience or training in inclusive teaching and learning in college settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of historical context, current environment and challenges, resources, and efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion at Pre-dominantly White Institutions (PWIs).
