Position Summary: Position Summary: The Campus Safety Officer conducts heavy foot and vehicle (utility cart) patrol to provide protection of life and property for the campus community. Responds to service calls issued via radio and telephone dispatch. Assists students, faculty, staff and visitors as needed and represents the University in a positive and professional manner by providing timely and excellent customer service. As necessary, determines medical and mental health needs, administers first aid and summons additional medical and mental health assistance as required. Coordinates with medical and law enforcement responders when a higher level of care is needed. Updates daily activity logs as needed and in a timely manner; completes written incident and investigative reports in a timely, clear and well-written manner. The Campus Safety Officer conducts investigations of reported crimes, traffic accidents and other incidents occurring within the jurisdictional boundaries of the University. Enforces parking regulations per the California Vehicle Code. Collaborate with other University departments (i.e. Resident Life, Athletics, Wellness Center, etc.) during emergency and non-emergency situations. Campus Safety Officers may be required to work shifts assigned to one of the University's gatehouses. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Protect life and property, and enforce campus regulations
  • Issue parking citations to vehicles parked in violation of campus regulations and state laws (warnings may be given for other traffic violations of campus regulations)
  • Observe and control all parking facilities
  • Investigate and report on minor vehicle collisions
  • Perform daily routine patrols of the university grounds and facilities and record observations
  • Observe and make written reports on any incident, injury, or crime that occurs or is discovered while on duty
  • Complete daily logs as specified and maintain good records of logs and reports
  • Assist maintenance are as by reporting maintenance needs and unsafe conditions to the maintenance office
  • Ensure that the building entrances are locked and secure per posted schedule
  • Participate and assist in emergency preparedness drills and exercises as directed
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

  • Qualification Requirements: Qualification Requirements:
    • High school diploma or equivalency required. Previous related security/safety or law enforcement experience highly desired. First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications, as well as valid guard card issued by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs required.
    • Ability to exercise basic computer skills such as reading and sending email, typing reports and filling out forms on a word processor
    • Ability to handle stressful situations and analyze incidences, injuries, and emergencies accurately and take prompt action
    • Ability to keep records and prepare reports
    • Ability to complete written reports including the proper use of grammar, punctuation and spelling
    • Ability to display and maintain a positive work attitude and maintain poise and patience in dealing with difficult individuals
    • Demonstrate good leadership and public relation skills that enable appropriate response to complaints and emergencies
