Description of primary duties and responsibilities::

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Division of Student Affairs seeks to enhance student growth, to foster an equitable and inclusive environment, to develop an institutional atmosphere in which student academic and personal success are encouraged and fostered, and to provide outstanding services, programs and facilities that enrich the student experience from orientation through graduation and that supports the university mission. The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and is responsible for policy, long-range planning, budget, personnel, and coordination of the Student Affairs departments, which encompasses the Counseling and Personal Development, Intramural & Recreational Sports, Office of Residence Life & Housing, Office of Student Activities & Student Engagement, Rudolph Jones Student Center, Office of Student Conduct, and Student Health Services. Additionally, the Division is responsible for coordinating New Student Orientation and operating the FSU Food Pantry. The Division of Student Affairs is a multi-faceted 365 days a year, 24 hours a day operation charged with managing twelve university facilities, 60 full-time, 20 temporary, and 70 student employees with a total annual budget of $15 million. Additionally, the Division of Student Affairs plays an integral role in managing substantial risks associated with facilities, student organizations, student health, and student conduct issues. As a result, the Division has high volumes of work and inquiries and, therefore, is a highly demanding and often confidential work environment.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Case Manager will focus on promoting holistic student wellness through providing early support and follow-up for complex situations involving students of concern. This position supports student learning and development by assuming a primary role in the assessment, referral, and case management of various student issues including health and mental health emergencies. The Case Manager is a member of the Office of the Dean of Students staff, reporting directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students. This position is the primary liaison to Student Health, Counseling Services and the Conduct Office. The Case Manager will monitor students and develop action plans to facilitate referrals to on-and off-campus resources In addition, the Case Manager will develop and lead programs, trainings, and workshops for faculty, staff, and students that support holistic student development and success. The position requires 40 hours of work per week and may also require evenings and/or weekend work.

Description of Work Continued::

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support retention efforts through reducing barriers to student success and attend to their needs holistically through education and personal development by planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating a full range of case management services.Provides case management and wellbeing advising for students whose behavior, academic progress, or mental or physical impairment indicate a need for assistance, identifying students’ problems and arranging for needed services.Create and conduct weekly Behavior Intervention Team (BIT) meetings to discuss the current caseload.Refine procedures regarding the handling of all case types to provide for an acceptable balance between the needs and concerns of involved student(s) and the university.Coordinate and provide services for students charged with Student Code of Conduct violations and coordinating complex cases with campus constituents.Provide periodic consultation for Student Health, Counseling and Personal Development Center and Residence Life.Create personal centered plans that provided holistic support for students in crisis.Respond to inquiries from students with care and quality services via phone, email and in person.Serve students through virtual advising, walk-in advising, workshops and other programming methods that best meet the needs of students.
Coordinate and monitor services, including comprehensive tracking of client activities in relation to care plan.Maintains case history records and prepares reports and evaluation of wellbeing advising/case management program. Monitor and maintain case management records through the university portals and other software systems (Maxient, EAB, etc.). Create, disseminate, and collect student surveys aimed at providing feedback on program, students’ needs and/or experience. Utilizes data to guide interventions and monitors effectiveness and student progress.
Periodically review prior cases to verify compliance and/or case closure. Act as a liaison between various academic affairs areas such as Bronco One Stop, Financial Aid.Initiate parental contact when appropriate. Periodically review prior cases to verify compliance and/or case closure.

Provide consultation, advocacy, resources/referrals and educational services as well as help students navigate systems.Serve as subject matter expert on Case Management best practices at the University level.Coordinates with other offices on campus to implement University-wide education and training that proactively impact undergraduate and graduate student well-being and educational success.Oversee planning and implementation of special events, workshops, and other programs to support college success and navigation. Provide referrals to university and community agencies.Maintain a directory of community resources available to students.Teach University Studies course. Serves as a member of various Division of Student Affairs and University committees; and Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements::

A Master’s degree or higher in counseling, social work, student personnel administration, higher education administration, or a related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications::

Student Affairs experience desired.

Fayetteville State University (FSU) is a member of the prestigious University of North Carolina System. Situated in southeastern North Carolina, FSU prides itself in being in one of the most diverse cities in the country and neighbor to one of the nation’s largest military installations – Fort Bragg.

FSU has a rich history that serves as genesis for its current status as a leading institution of higher learning. A year after the Civil War ended, the Phillips School provided primary education to Fayetteville’s black citizens, and the Sumner School provided intermediate education for this population. The two schools were consolidated in 1869 and dedicated in April of that year as the Howard School, in honor of the Freedman’s Bureau chief General O.O. Howard. Seven prominent African-American men pooled $136 to purchase two lots for the first building that housed the Howard School. Robert Harris was named the first principal of the Howard School.

In 1877, the Howard School became not just the first public normal school for African Americans in North Carolina but also the first state-sponsored institution for the education of African-American teachers in the South. It was renamed the State Colored Normal School in Fayetteville that year, Fayetteville State Teachers College in 1939, Fayetteville State College in 1963, and Fayetteville State University in 1969.

While FSU’s roots are as a teacher education institution, it now offers nearly 70 degrees at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels. Many of the programs are accredited by the top agencies. The university’s School of Business and Economics is endorsed by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). AACSB is one of the most prestigious and rigorous accrediting bodies for business programs in higher education. Currently, less than one-third of U.S. business programs and only 15% of the world's business programs have earned AACSB accreditation. Receipt of this distinguished accreditation provides evidence that FSU’s School of Business and Economics has established itself as a leader among business schools. Additionally, the Master of Business Administration program has been cited by U.S. News and World Report and The Princeton Review as one of the best graduate business school programs in the country. The Department of Criminal Justice is accredited by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS).
