Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing a variety of functions addressing students’ personal and educational needs. These functions include counseling services of a remedial, preventive and developmental nature for students who are experiencing psychological, social or emotional distress relating to a wide array of concerns. In keeping with State of Georgia law, incumbents in this position should be licensed or license-eligible as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker or Psychologist in Georgia, and work with supervision, under the direction of someone licensed and approved by the State Board of Examiners until licensure is attained.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual, couples, and group counseling - 70%
• Provide individual, couples, and group counseling for students, and concduct intial asessments. Perform case management duties, including treatment planning and completing treatment documentation, in a professional and timely fashion in accordance with center policy.
• Provide outreach and consultative services - 10%
• Outreach programming includes developing and delivering workshops and presentations on topics related to mental health issues, and participating in various faculty/staff/student trainings. Consultation services include providing consultation to faculty, staff, families, and students regarding mental health issues.
• Support the center's crisis intervention efforts - 10%
• Provide crisis intervention including same-day emergency appointments, after-hours on-call responsibilities, and additional clinical time as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the Department. - 10%
• May include providing clinical supervision to trainees as assigned, or coordinating one or more areas of Counseling and Psychological Services, such as outreach or groups, as requested by Director.
• Perform related duties as assigned - 5%
• Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University, including attending university committees, task forces or other meetings as assigned by Director.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, professional counseling, clinical social work or closely related discipline.
• Licensed or license eligible in Georgia as a psychologist or professional counselor or clinical social worker.
• One year experience in providing individual counseling.
• Knowledge of professional ethical guidelines associated with counseling practice.
• Knowledge of providing mental health services to college/university students.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of providing counseling in a university counseling center strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of the principles of student development and psychological theories.
• Knowledge of clinical service delivery systems in college/university counseling centers.
• Knowledge of the various laws (FERPA, HIPAA, state/federal laws) that impact counseling service provision in university counseling centers.
• Demonstrated skills in and a commitment to providing clinical and outreach services to diverse populations.
• Ability to plan, organize, and implement short and long term goals.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, and university officials.
• Ability to communicate clearly, consisely and effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
