Job Description:

Would you like to be a part of cutting-edge research using artificial intelligence to improve medical care? Would you like to work at a top-5 public university with a team of world-class, well-funded medical researchers who are committed to revolutionizing critical care medicine?

At the University of Florida's Intelligent Critical Care Center (IC3), we're looking for a motivated AI/ML Data Scientist with extensive experience in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL). As our AI/ML Data Scientist, you will be a key part of IC3's research projects involving the development of multimodal data processing pipelines and ML prediction frameworks for patient-level clinical prediction applications.

Your position will integrate data processing, data analysis, and development and validation of ML/DL models for cutting-edge clinical AI research. Your advanced experience with Python and DL will be put to good use at IC3, where you'll play a central role in high-impact healthcare AI applications and work with teams of students, scientists, and faculty on novel research projects. The scope of your work will be broad, and you'll be expected to have prior experience working with tabular data, time series, text, and images.

IC3 focuses on innovative medical AI research, education, and clinical applications that can transform the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of critically ill patients. We are idealists, problem solvers, and explorers of digital health and AI.

Essential Functions;

  • Developing and validating supervised ML/DL models for predicting a variety of clinical outcomes from multimodal data inputs
  • Implementing unsupervised ML/DL techniques for exploratory analysis, clustering, and phenotyping
  • Developing self-supervised ML/DL techniques from patient data
  • Developing and maintaining federated learning (FL) platforms
  • Evaluating models and optimizing hyperparameters

  • Integrating, filtering and extracting multivariate and multimodal clinical datasets for patient cohorts of interest from local databases and data warehouses
  • Processing, validating, analyzing, and visualizing insights from heterogenous patient data
  • Ensuring quality, consistency, and validity of large multimodal datasets
  • Summarizing and visualizing results for inclusion in scientific publications
  • Maintaining code and proper documentation

  • Communicating findings to project leaders and team
  • Maintaining appropriate records of research methods and results and assisting in preparation of presentations and/or writing manuscripts.

    Expected Salary:

    $69,600 - $90,372

    Minimum Requirements:

A doctorate in a related field with one year of relevant experience in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field. A Master's degree with three years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in computer science, statistics, biomedical engineering, or related field
  • Experience with EHR datasets
  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP)
  • Experience with medical imaging or computer vision
  • Experience with federated learning
  • Familiarity with Linux command line
