POSITION:
PT - Microbiology Laboratory Assistant

SALARY:
$ 13.85 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Must have had a microbiology class within the last 3 years

Preferred:
• Biology major with an interest in microbiology

• Non-Exempt

Position Type & Work Schedule:
• Part-time, up to 19 hours per week
• Follows the class schedules

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Basic knowledge of biology and microbiology
• Good aseptic techniques (can be trained)
• Keep notes and be organized
• Keep improving the current knowledge
• Work well in a team and independently
• Good verbal/written communication

Work Environment:
• Indoor, lab setting
• Normal noise level

Physical Demands:
• Stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
• Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs.

Travel:
• No travel required

Note:• No benefits

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Proficient in using aseptic technique, proficient with using a light microscope, able to operate incubator, autoclave, and typical equipment associated with a microbiology lab. Be willing to get trained and train others.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
Serves Students. Prepares microbiological media, stains, and reagents. Cultures microbes.

Teaching assistant in the microbiology lab.

Sets up the classroom for the lab. Maintains clean and safe conditions in the classroom and lab prep area.

Prepares kits for microbiological experiments, e.g. ELISA and transformation.

Assists in ordering microbiology supplies.

Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.
