SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform a variety of work involving grounds and landscape maintenance of college land, lawns, gardens, and sports fields. Employees in this classification are responsible for accomplishing a daily routine of general and preventative maintenance tasks that provides the employees, students, and general public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient area. May work independently or as a member of a crew. The Groundskeeper is the first level in the Groundkeeper job family, an entry level position, where incumbents perform physical labor as part of a work crew.
TYPICAL DUTIES: Serves Students. Removes weeds, blows, sweeps, rakes, and removes trash and debris from all exterior property such as walkways, culverts, retention ponds, roadways, planters, lawns, landscaping, athletic fields, pond, undeveloped property and parking areas. Maintains in-ground drains and culverts. Keep lawns and athletic fields trimmed in a neat and orderly fashion using various lawn care equipment such as weed-eaters, trimmers, edger, blower, and other equipment. Plants and cultivates trees, grass, flowers, and shrubs. Spades and otherwise prepares grounds for planting. Performs minor trimming projects on trees and bushes using pruners and shears. Assists in the maintenance of parking lots, sidewalks, walls and fences, including patching and painting. Performs daily checks on tools and equipment, including preventative maintenance and minor repairs. Assists in irrigation system repairs and construction projects. Digs trenches, unloads and relocates material and cleans tools and equipment. Controls building doors during an active fire alarm. Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.
