Job Summary:

The Associate Director works in a fast paced and unstructured environment that interfaces with research, technology and business worlds within Oklahoma State University and the other Canopy Health University and corporate stakeholders within Oklahoma, and national partners. The Associate Director must demonstrate a significant leadership role in this position by the development, promotion, and execution of Oklahoma State University’s participation in this complex interdisciplinary program. A major effort for this position requires the ability to coach and mentor academic faculty on the requirements and realities of participating in Canopy and how Canopy can help in navigating the business world involving the commercialization of virtual health technology. Another important effort for this position is to drive collaboration across the Canopy HealthTech partnership including the Tulsa Innovation Labs, University of Oklahoma, Tulsa University, Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology, and 36 North. This is a senior level position that provides the opportunity to leverage new and existing relationships, evaluate new technologies and assess new business opportunities while developing relationships with outside investors and industry to sustain the program's funding.

Canopy HealthTech will establish a key component of the infrastructure necessary to connect virtual health technologists with needed resources to launch start-ups. After a competitive application process, Canopy HealthTech will accelerate commercialization for participant teams by providing product development funding, active project management, entrepreneurial training, and commercialization mentorship. This mentorship will be provided by a diverse group of medical technology executives. As these projects transition from academia to venture creation, Canopy HealthTech will establish a “soft landing” for them in Tulsa.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
· Supervise Oklahoma State University’s participation in the Canopy HealthTech program.
· Lead engineering and clinical faculty to develop and present to the Oversight Committee (OC) research grant applications that are translational in nature and that can result in new or improved medical products.
· After the selection of 5-8 projects on an annual basis, work with the project faculty, Canopy HealthTech team and Center for Health Systems Innovation Executive Director to ensure the attainment of project goals and critical milestones toward financing and commercialization of products
· Act as a primary connection for Canopy HealthTech Program to resources across Oklahoma’s entrepreneurial ecosystem that can ensure the success of each project.
· Leverage translational research programs at Oklahoma State University in order to share best practices, identify mutually beneficial resources.
· Initiate and sustain the importance of the Program to ensure the appropriate visibility and sustainability among the administration, faculty, and local economic development resources
· Assist in Canopy HealthTech promotion of appropriate projects to the angel and venture capital community with the goal of providing follow up financing and commercialization, preparation of quarterly progress reports, presentations to the philanthropic supporters of Canopy HealthTech and other reporting requirements as needed.
· Educate on Business and Funding coaching for area start-up companies and angel investors.
· Design and plan training seminars with Canopy HealthTech for faculty to educate them on commercialization of virtual health technology.
· Collaborate with staff from the University Advancement offices to plan and implement fundraising events to help increase awareness of Canopy HealthTech and its benefit to campus efforts to receive continued support for the program.
· Educate investigators and department fiscal/grants staff about reporting requirements and answer questions related to awards and allowable costs.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Required Experience:
· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
· At least 5 years of experience with technology development, testing, and/or technology management.

Skills, Proficiencies and Knowledge:

· Demonstrated ability to represent professional services
· Demonstrated ability to recruit academic/industry participation in health innovation, educate on complex health business ecosystem and represent individual scientific projects successfully
· Sensitivity to the differences in culture between the academic and industrial environment
· Minimum five years program management experience, preferably in an academic or non-profit environment
· Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills, and attention to detail
· Professional demeanor and demonstrated ability to work with clinical, research and instructional faculty, staff and industry partners
· Ability to work independently
· Ability to prioritize competing tasks and complete work on time
· Willingness to learn new business processes and adapt to changes
· Highly receptive to feedback and coaching
· Possess confidence, patience, and flexibility in a rapidly evolving environment
· Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects, often with shifting priorities and requiring collaboration across many departments

Preferred Experience:
· Master's degree in a relevant field
· Customer Relationship Management experience
· Academic and Industry work experience
· Successful track record of launching health care services
· Knowledge of rural health care gaps and barriers to care
· Experience testing technologies/care alternatives to solve care gaps in rural communities.
· Knowledge of the health data set assets: MyHealth and Cerner HealthFact
