Husson University’s College of Science and Humanities invites applications for an Instructor or Assistant Professor of Cellular and Microbiology to begin fall 2023. Ideal applicants will have a strong scientific background and a passion for teaching.

This position is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses likely to include, Cell Biology, Microbiology and General Biology. Expertise and the ability to teach in other areas including Virology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Epidemiology and/or Pathophysiology is desirable. The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The successful candidate will be adept at developing and implementing constructive lecture and lab activities, assessing student performance, and playing an active role as an advisor. All ranked faculty are expected to fulfill institutional expectations of teaching, scholarship, advising, and service. Faculty are also required to remain current in their field and with best practices in assessment, and instruction. Participation in campus committees and engaging productively in the academic life of the University are hallmarks of a successful candidate.

Examples of Duties

  • Teach a variety of science classes such as microbiology, cell biology, and general biology.
  • Develop and present innovative instruction for lectures and labs.
  • Assess student performance and participate in college assessment activities.
  • Work professionally, ethically, and collaboratively within the College of Science and Humanities and the University.
  • Note: This is a face-to-face position; candidates are expected to be on campus.

    Typical Qualifications

    Education:

    Masters Required, Ph.D. or ABD preferred.

    M.S. candidate with a strong background in several desired areas considered.

    The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to effective teaching and student learning, as well as the ability to collaborate across disciplines to develop outstanding educational opportunities for students.

    Professional:

    Must be a team player who is able to work independently with minimal supervision and function congenially and effectively within a team environment. Must be comfortable operating and maintaining lab instruments and analytical computer software.

    Teaching:

    The successful candidate will be a dynamic, energetic, creative, and engaging instructor and have strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating a commitment to cultural diversity and inclusive education. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to Husson University’s mission and to the highest ethical standards.
