Oregon Institute of Technology is conducting a search for an instructor of History and Philosophy of Science. This is a 9-month, full-time multi-year renewable faculty appointment. This position will support our general education offerings in the areas of history and philosophy, with an emphasis on applied ethics and the history and philosophy of science. Appointment renewals will be based on satisfactory annual performance, University needs, and other considerations. The position reports to the Chair of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. Qualified candidates will have a doctoral degree from an accredited college or university with an area of specialty in History and Philosophy of Science and an area of competency in Applied Ethics. Qualified candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach a broad range of classes that support our humanities and social sciences general education program including history of science and technology, and science, technology, and society. Doctorate required. While ABD candidates will be considered, successful degree completion prior to January 1, 2024 is required for reappointment. Department Information:  

The Humanities and Social Sciences department is a dynamic and growing department with a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Applied Psychology and Population Health Management, minors in ALPs, Medical Sociology, and Psychology, undergraduate and graduate ABA course sequences, Master’s degrees in Applied Behavior Analysis and Marriage and Family Therapy, and a diverse collection of courses in support of Oregon Tech’s general education mission. All our programs work closely with community partners to provide applied learning experiences for our students. Qualification Requirements:  

  • PhD in History/Philosophy (ABD candidates will be considered, successful degree completion prior to January 1, 2024 is required for reappointment)
  • Experience teaching

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Specialty in History and Philosophy of Science
  • Area of competency in Applied Ethics
  • Experience teaching courses in philosophy and history of science and technology
