Essential Functions of Position:

The ideal candidate will share Fresno City College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the 2021-2022 academic year, we enrolled over 34,000 students in which 60% identify as Latinx, 11% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 5% as Black/African American, 20% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. Fresno City College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Providing services related to Child Development on the Fresno City College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations, the Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the planning, coordinating, directing and supervising the activities and staff of the Child Development Center;
  • Supervising the laboratory experience of child development students in a developmentally appropriate demonstration site environment for preschool and toddler age children;
  • Coordinating student observation and participation;
  • Developing program goals for children, parents, and students;
  • Administering the daily requirements of the Child Development Center;
  • Supervising the Child and Adult Care Food Program;
  • Administering the requirements and maintaining all state, local, and federal categorical grant programs, preparation of applications for child care funding, and early child care and education program management;
  • Assuring maintenance of a physical environment that conforms to the State Department of Social Services licensing standards of health and safety;
  • Conducting Center inspections to assure compliance;
  • Communicating with parents, staff and administrators related to Center operations and student progress;
  • Discussing issues or concerns with parents;
  • Enrolling children, maintaining appropriate records on children, staff, and students in compliance with District requirements, licensing regulations and other legal and regulatory provisions;
  • Ensuring availability of appropriate materials and equipment for staff and children’s use;
  • Learning and applying emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner;
  • Training, supervising, evaluating and directing the work of the Center staff;
  • Coordinating and supporting relationships for inclusion, with collaborating “on site” agencies;
  • Coordinating and conducting staff meetings and in-service training;
  • Assisting in the placement, guidance and supervision of students from instructional programs;
  • Participating in appropriate professional development activities;
  • Participating in institutional activities including staff development;
  • Meeting regularly with discipline/division peers;
  • Participating on community advisory committees related to early care and education initiatives;
  • Preparing grant proposals for external funding to support center operations;
  • Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed, may include off-campus instruction at local high schools for dual enrollment;
  • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND

  • Master’s in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; OR

  • Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies; OR

  • A valid California Community College Credential; OR

  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

NOTE: Special requirements include a California Child Development Program’s Director’s Permit (or be able to obtain a permit within 6 months of hire).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals;
  • Extent of experience teaching and administering in licensed early care and education programs;
  • Knowledge of Child Development, Early Childhood Curriculum, inclusive practice, teaching methods and techniques;
  • Knowledgeable of online teaching, or online teaching certification;
  • Knowledgeable of applicable State Department of Human Services licensing regulations, child care food programs, health and safety regulations, state, local and federal categorical grant programs, preparation of applications for child care funding, and early child care and education program management;
  • Experience and preparation with Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation, & Community Care Licensing;
  • Ability to navigate various agreements with collaborating agencies;
  • Knowledge and experience administering California Department of Social Services California State Pre School Program (CSPP) and General Child Care and Development (CCTR) contracts; and
  • Experience collaborating with community partners.

Conditions of Employment:

210 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting annual salary is $60,678 – $108,381 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:

Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

Organization

State Center Community College District (SCCCD) was formed in 1964 when it assumed control of Fresno City College and Reedley College. SCCCD serves approximately one million people and 18 unified and high school districts in more than 5,500 square miles of urban and rural territory, including most of Fresno and Madera counties and portions of Kings and Tulare counties. SCCCD is governed by a seven-member board of trustees who represent seven trustee areas. Total district enrollment for the fall semester 2012 is over 34,000 students. SCCCD is a merit system district with over 2,300 faculty and classified staff represented by the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). The total operating budget for SCCCD in 2012-13 is $168 million. 

Fresno City College, established in 1910, enrolls in excess of 22,000 students and offers more than 100 associate of arts and science degree programs and 60 certificate of achievement programs in vocational/occupational areas. Reedley College, established in 1926, is located in Reedley (approximately 25 miles southeast of Fresno) and enrolls approximately 6,200 students in a variety of courses and degree programs in occupational education and the arts and sciences. SCCCD operates three educational centers with a combined enrollment of approximately 8,300 students. The Willow International, Madera and Oakhurst centers offer programs in general education for transfer and two-year degrees. In addition, the district offers occupational and technical training at its Career and Technology Center and the Training Institute.
