The University of Colorado System Administration, which also houses the Office of the President, is located in the uptown neighborhood of Denver with a few smaller offices located on the campuses. Many of our departments support the educational and research missions of the four University of Colorado campuses, but System Administration is not considered a campus. Employee Services (ES) department provides the CU community with excellent services from recruitment to retirement. This office provides technical expertise while administering benefits, professional development, payroll, individual tax management, and strategic HR programs. The functional areas of ES include Payroll, Technologies, Benefits, Retirement, Learning and Development, International Tax, and Human Resources.

Position Summary:

The Sr. Business Systems Administrator position provides support, development, and growth, to new and current critical ES systems, which help to support the campuses. This position will interact closely with all ES employees and the University Information Systems (UIS) department to understand customer and stakeholder requirements, ensure alignment with institution initiatives, and drive continuous business process improvements. This position is customer oriented and highly focused on designing solutions to increase department efficiencies. Project development, system administration, ongoing support, and technical design such as understanding the change and enabling system transformation are key components. This position understands customers' business processes and works to ensure the systems meet their needs.

This positions' first initiative upon hire is to prepare for a new department ticketing management system. Starting with gathering requirements from the customers in Payroll and Benefits, BI, Business Operations, and HR teams (ES department users, approx. 70), to guiding the department through the implementation of the selected system. While supporting the department ticketing system, this position will also support our performance management, content management, project management, learning and development, and additional business systems as they arise.

This position reports to the HR Business Systems Manager and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff System.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

System/ Application Administrator:
  • Serve as an administrator for ES business systems, configure and maintain the system where required. Connect with UIS department to implement software upgrades and ES needs when necessary.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to customers who are super users of the systems by providing department specific education, and best practices of the systems.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and works with team members to find a resolution or escalate to vender if necessary.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute procedures for maintenance and configuration for the systems including installation and thorough testing for upgrades and patches.

System Customer Support/ Liaison:
  • Provide technical guidance or business process expertise, technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to team member.
  • Analyze business processes, anticipate future requirements, and find areas for improvements.
  • Ability to create and maintain standard processes and procedure support for all ES business systems.
  • Ability to train new and current management on business systems within their scope.
  • Consistently communicate with customers regarding updates and keeping process guides updated.
  • Lead informative ES System meetings when necessary to inform customers on upgrades, common questions, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with campus constituents and participate in planning sessions to improve business processes and prioritize investments.
  • Act as liaison between vender and customers to resolve system issues in a timely manner.

Project Coordination
  • Demonstrate project management skills and serve as a department technical lead on IT projects.
  • Lead and support the implementation and change management efforts necessary to continuously improve ES business systems.
  • Develop general project plans related to ES Business Systems and follow the defined methodology for the initiation, planning, execution and closing phases.
  • Identify opportunities for improving the delivery of project management processes.
  • Track and present project progress, issues, and solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Consistently communicate with customers about projects updates and ensure projects are completed.

What We Offer:

Salary: The anticipated hiring range has been established at $82,000-$87,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Please ensure your resume includes any and all relevant experience to be accurately assessed against these qualifications.  You must meet all minimum requirements listed at the time of application to be considered for this role.
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis). Four (4) years' experience working as a system administrator, business applications subject matter expert, or related area with a strong background in customer service.
    • At least two (2) of the above four (4) years working with a ticketing management system and/or experience with business system/IT project management.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
    A bachelor's degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.  A combination of education and related technical/professional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.
  • Six (6) years' equivalent experience, as stated above, which may include at least three (3) years of experience working in higher education and:
    • Experience working with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
    • Experience working in a university Administration office.
  • Two (2) years' project management experience such as utilizing central project management tools to implement, configure, administer, and improve business system or workflow automation tools.
  • Experience and knowledge of web development (HTML, Javascript, REST, API, etc.).
  • Experience and knowledge of SQL database architecture and query building.
  • Experience as a business or technical analyst that includes some of the following components:
    • Documenting business processes.
    • Gathering requirements.
    • Creating business cases and functional specifications.
    • Writing test plans.
    • Analyzing and troubleshooting software application issues.
    • Testing software application changes.
  • One (1) year experience using Hyland OnBase Software:
    • Certified OnBase System Administrator (OCSA)
    • Certified OnBase Workflow Administrator (OCWA)
  • Experience working with business systems such as:
    • Business learning management systems
    • Performance management systems
    • Project management systems
    • Human capital management systems
    • Content management systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of information technology practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge on systems such as:
    • Ticketing management systems
