Job Summary/Basic Function

The Program Coordinator position reports directly to the Director of the
Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is part of the division of Student Life at Maryville University. Currently, the Diversity and Inclusion staff consists of a Director, three Program Coordinators, and a graduate assistant.

The Program Coordinator for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion advocates for underrepresented students while simultaneously developing, implementing, and assessing programs and initiatives that enhance campus life and stimulate students' experiences
through a social justice lens. The coordinator works directly with students and community
constituents through our Multicultural Scholars Program, multicultural student organizations, and pre-collegiate and outreach programs.

Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary advisor for the five cultural organizations that are a part of the ODI
office: Latinx Student Alliance (LSA), Maryville Gender and Sexuality Alliance (MUGSA),
Inclusion at Maryville (IAM), Association of Black Collegians (ABC), and Hawaiian Asian
Pacific Islander Association (HAPA)
• Develop and implement programs to serve underrepresented students such as: Life
Skills, Health/Wellness, Retention, Finance, Civic Engagement, Time Management,
Having Presence, Networking, Conflict Management and others as needed.
• Manage and oversee outreach programs related to the office of diversity and inclusion
• Work on ad-hoc projects as assigned
• Provide referrals, guidance, and intervention for students with underrepresented
identities who may be experiencing bias, difficulty negotiating institutional processes,
or marginalization due to cultural differences; work in concert with relevant student
services and advocate as needed
• Assist the Office of Admissions with the selection and scholarship awarding of
Multicultural Scholarships
• Work on the office of diversity and inclusion campus-wide programs, including but not
limited to Tunnel of Consciousness, Cultural Festival, Homecoming Committee, Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. Celebration, Heritage Month observances, Women’s History Month,
SAFE Zone, Diversity Dialogue series, Crucial Conversations series, President’s Tree
Lighting Program, End of Year Celebration, etc.
• Provides in-class instruction and teaches the Multicultural Scholars Program courses
(1 course a semester)
• Develop and distribute assessments to ensure programs, courses, and experience meet
the learning outcomes of the program
• Serve as the Fraternity and Sorority Liaison for the office of diversity and inclusion,
assisting with communication and compliance for working with city-wide chapters
related to the fraternity and sorority community.
• Attend activities and events in the St. Louis area. Some evenings and weekends work
required as related to programming outcomes for the position.
• Serve on division or university-wide ad-hoc committees that plan intentional programs,
workshops and trainings for students, faculty, and professional staff (i.e., Mocha Tea, etc.)
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Exemplary skills in program development and implementation
• Demonstrated commitment to ethnic and cultural diversity
• Cultural competency and capacity to connect and communicate compassion across a
breadth of identities
• Excellent oral written communication skills
• Experience in event planning and/or student organization advising
• Possess a collaborative approach to working with students, faculty and staff
• Current driver’s license and ability to obtain certification to drive University vans
• Experience working with students from underrepresented populations
• Experience working with multicultural organizations
• Able to facilitate conversations, workshops, and teach on social justice concepts and
frameworks

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in student development or related field
• 2 years of student affairs higher education experience (internship and practicum
experience is acceptable)
