Position Summary:

To provide digital services that enhance the user experience in the Oesterle Library online environment, including web services, database management, and OER efforts. This is a Librarian level position that, in conjunction with other librarians, participates in reference, liaison, and collection development activities.

Description of Key Responsibilities:

1. Serve as webmaster and lead designer for the Library Services website.
a. Oversee and implement site design; code all web pages and perform web programming and application development
b. Write, edit, and maintain website content with participation by other members of the library staff
c. Monitor, troubleshoot and regularly update website code and content; review and maintain compliance with World Wide Web Consortium standards
d. Regularly evaluate emerging technologies, modules, and practices for inclusion on the library website
e. Compile and evaluate usage statistics
f. Manage and oversee creation of graphic and video elements
g. Support the Head of Archives and Special Collections in performing all of the above tasks for the Archives subpages of the library website
2. Serve as administrator for library web systems and platforms
a. Train library team in accessing and using systems
b. Oversee logins and access for library team to designated platforms
3. Updates and maintains the user interfaces for library software applications and web interfaces
a. Including: PrimoVE, Leganto, Open Athens, LibGuides
b. Collect usage statistics and data for these systems as needed for assessment
4. Work with Information Technology Services staff to implement and maintain library software, hardware, and shared server platforms. Work with Information Technology Services on special projects
5. Participate in evaluation and assessment activities. Regularly assess the design, content, performance, and perform usability testing of the Library Services website. Conduct as needed, website testing, focus groups and surveys. Engage in library assessment activities as requested by the Director.
6. Coordinate the effective use of library technology systems
a. Advises and makes recommendations on library purchases of computer hardware, software, and supplies
b. Installs and updates library-specific software packages
c. In conjunction with the Access Services Coordinator, provides local support, training, and system administration for I-Share system, and coordinates maintenance activities with CARLI consortium
d. Advises and assists library staff in use of software and resources available through campus networks and other sources
e. Create and maintain, in conjunction with other library staff, an OER system and institutional repository
7. Participate in reference, instruction, and collection development activities
a. Provide reference service at scheduled times
b. Prepare and conduct library instruction sessions
c. Serve as library liaison to a particular division which includes annual collection development and library instruction responsibilities
8. Cooperate as a team member with all library staff in performing any duties essential to efficient library operations
9. Attend seminars and training sessions to improve or update position-oriented skills and knowledge, when appropriate and funds permit
10. Participate in local, state, and national library organizations, when appropriate and funds permit
11. Fulfill other related duties as assigned by designated supervisor

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

3. Excellent speaking and writing skills as well as interpersonal and organization skills required
4. Experience using integrated library systems required. Experience with administration of automated library systems preferred.
5. Ability to troubleshoot library technology, including the integrated library system required.
6. Ability to collect, organize, and interpret statistical data for effective library system planning.
7. Ability to work effectively as a member of a staff where cooperation and teamwork are essential.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

The person in this position must have a firm understanding of the needs of users in a digital environment and they must be willing to think out of the box and be flexible. This person is part of a highly collaborative team and works with the campus community so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

Education/Training:

Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution is required

Experience:

Experience with web-page development and knowledge of web standards are required. Reference experience and knowledge of online and print resources and services is required. Experience with an integrated library system strongly preferred. Teaching or library instruction experience is strongly preferred. Collection development experience in an academic library setting is preferred.
