COLLEGE CHAPLAIN

Bridgewater College’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, within the Division of Student Life, is hiring for the position of College Chaplain. The Chaplain serves a diverse population and must be sensitive to all belief systems, religious traditions, spiritual perspectives, and cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Responsible for facilitating the spiritual identity development for students of all religious and spiritual traditions, including those who identify as religious, the Chaplain meets students where they are and creates an optimal environment in which students are encouraged to move through developmental milestones. The Chaplain works collaboratively, both within and alongside the Division of Student Life, and demonstrates a commitment to the ideals of the Student Life Curriculum at Bridgewater, embracing the objectives of fostering critical thinking, a sense of community, cultural appreciation, and identity development in all facets of their work. In addition to supporting the general work of student development, this position assists in managing crises, addresses issues related to grief and bereavement, and conducts significant outreach with students, often in the form of events, programming, and conversation. The Chaplain provides ministerial support for campus events as needed.

Bridgewater College is an independent educational institution grounded in the liberal arts and historically affiliated with the Church of Brethren. As such, the Chaplain must be intimately aware of the values and identity of the Church and sensitive to its traditions therein.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•  Master's degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, or its equivalent in relevant training/experience required.

•  3 years in a college/university setting (and/or relevant experience) required.

•  Current VA driver’s license (or must obtain within 60 days of relocation to VA) and a good driving record that meets the BC driver policy required.

•  Ministerial ordination preferred.

•  Counseling experience preferred.

•  Program planning for small and medium events required.

•  Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as a team required.

•  Demonstrated success working with a culturally diverse community of students and staff required.

•  Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. required.

•  Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

Pay is competitive, and salary is commensurate with experience. This full-time position offers a full benefits package, including paid tuition at the College for eligible dependents.

Bridgewater offers bachelor’s degrees in approximately 60 majors and minors, along with four graduate programs, pre-professional programs such as medicine and law, and teacher licensure. The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 23 intercollegiate athletic teams.
