Visiting Assistant Professor of Fiction Writing

The Department of English at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a position as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Fiction Writing specializing in creative writing with a primary focus in fiction and a secondary specialty in creative nonfiction. The appointment will be effective August 2023. The teaching load is a 3/3. Candidates must hold an MFA or PhD in Creative Writing by August 2023 and have college-level teaching experience. Experience with literary journal editing, digital platforms and design, and/or the teaching of editing is desirable. The successful candidate will have significant fiction publications in literary journals and/or at least one published book of fiction (short stories and/or a novel). The individual hired for this position will have the opportunity to teach graduate courses in the Master of Arts in Writing program, undergraduate fiction workshops, and introductory creative writing courses. The position also includes opportunities to contribute to the production of Waccamaw, Coastal Carolina’s award-winning online literary journal, the department’s visiting writers’ series, as well as individually-centered undergraduate and graduate projects. Subspecialties in African American Literature or Diaspora Studies, Southern Literature, or cross-genre subspecialties are welcome as this position offers the opportunity to collaborate with the Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies.
