Description
The Department of English and the Writing Program at Georgetown University invite applications for Writing Program Director at the rank of full or associate professor to begin July 1, 2023. While the Director will have a faculty position within the Department of English, they will lead a Writing Program that serves students and faculty across Georgetown's main campus, including its five undergraduate schools. The Writing Program is responsible for the University's first-year writing requirement, its writing-in-the-disciplines requirement (called Integrated Writing), and an expanding portfolio of writing courses, programs, and initiatives. The Program has established partnerships with a range of campus projects, including the Center for Multicultural Equity and Access, the Prisons and Justice Initiative, the Capital Applied Learning Lab, the McDonough School of Business, and several departments in the sciences. Our projects engage with current research in transfer, self-sponsored writing, project-based learning, multimodal communications, and public writing.

We seek a scholar with significant experience in program leadership and research in Writing and Rhetoric.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead planning and development for the Writing Program, including expanding the scope of the Writing Program as needs and opportunities emerge
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to promote attention to and support for writing across campus through the Writing Center, curricular and pedagogical innovation efforts, graduate student development opportunities, and research initiatives related to Writing
  • Oversee hiring and support for full- and part-time faculty teaching first-year, second-language, and advanced writing courses
  • Mentor and supervise core Writing faculty; oversee annual reviews and renewal/promotions for NTL Writing faculty
  • In consultation with core Writing faculty, develop and implement Program assessment
  • Coordinate development and engagement efforts for faculty within the Writing Program and across campus
  • Collaborate with departments and programs across the Main Campus to support teaching of writing within the majors
  • With assistance from administrative staff, oversee Writing Program operations, including developing the Program's budget, scheduling courses, determining office assignments, and maintaining the Program's website
  • Consult with colleagues, departments, and programs across campus
  • Represent the Writing Program on the Main Campus Core Curriculum Committee
  • Teach one course each semester

Qualifications
  • Doctorate in a relevant field
  • Experience with administrative functions such as managing a budget, hiring, mentoring FT and adjunct faculty, and program assessment
  • Experience developing/leading pedagogical and curricular innovations
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and engage colleagues across campus
  • Experience in creating inclusive learning environments
  • Experience and publications appropriate for earning tenure and rank of Associate or Full Professor at Georgetown
