Position Description

The Croft Institute for International Studies at the University of Mississippi (www.croft.olemiss.edu) invites applications for a position of visiting assistant professor in international studies to begin in August 2023. This is a one-year position with the possibility of a renewal for an additional year contingent on funding. The Croft Institute, a signature program on campus, administers the interdisciplinary major in International Studies within the College of Liberal Arts.

We seek applications from candidates with a cross-regional research agenda who are also prepared to contribute to our regional concentration in Europe and possess the language proficiency to conduct field research in German. Candidates with a research focus on public health, environment, climate change, or green technology are particularly encouraged to apply. 

The successful candidates should hold a Ph.D. by the time of hire and must provide evidence of teaching excellence. Candidates in ABD standing may apply but must submit materials to demonstrate that they can complete their PhD by the time of appointment (August 2023).

The teaching load will be 3-3. The hire will teach interdisciplinary classes at the introductory and upper level for the Croft Institute (including the lower division core class in “European Studies”, Inst 205). Candidates with a PhD in anthropology, history, political science, public policy, or sociology may have an opportunity to teach classes in the respective UM department.
