Professor of Philosophy and Literature, Ralston College

Ralston College invites applications for the position of Professor of Philosophy and Literature. The successful candidate will teach in our MA in the Humanities program, and will have the requisite training to explicate ancient, medieval, and modern philosophical and theological texts, and a demonstrated ability to lecture on major works of literature in the Western canon. Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching, significant scholarly promise, exceptional interpersonal and rhetorical skills, and a strong commitment to fostering a rich and dynamic collegiate community.

We seek candidates of any specialization who hold a Ph.D. in philosophy, theology, literature, or a related discipline. All applicants should have reading knowledge of Latin and Ancient Greek; knowledge of a modern language will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will lead seminars, offer lectures (approximate teaching load of 6-8 hours/week), participate in the communal life of the College, maintain active scholarly commitments, contribute to the administrative operations of the College, and, above all, have the heart and mind to help build a new institution. Except in extraordinary circumstances, candidates must be citizens of the United States, Mexico, or Canada.

Ralston College is a new institution of higher learning in Savannah, Georgia. A revival and reinvention of the traditional university, Ralston College is committed to the human flourishing that the humanities both represent and enable. Ralston offers its students transformative encounters with the works of intellect and imagination that have, for centuries, been central to humanistic learning; and it does so in the context of an inspiring collegiate community of scholars, teachers, and colleagues who value deep learning, free inquiry, and the appreciation of all forms of culture.

The position is full time and open both to early career scholars and more established academics. Initial appointment is for one year (renewable). Salary will correspond to the candidate’s level of experience. More than one appointment may be made. Applicants should send a CV, letter of interest, and contact information for three letters of recommendation to Professor James Bryson (employment@ralston.ac). Writing samples (and reference letters) will be requested after initial interviews.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The prospective start date is June 15th, 2023.
