Post-Doctoral Research AssociateExperimental Condensed Matter PhysicsThe University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN, United StatesDescription: Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate at the Department of Physics, University of Tennessee (UTK) and the Joint Institute for Advanced Material (JIAM) – a joint venture with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The successful applicant will carry out interdisciplinary materials research that touches on a wide range of topics such as correlated electron systems, topological states, frustrated magnetism, multiferroics and superconductivity. One of the focuses of his/her research will be on ultralow temperature transport measurements on materials and devices for various emergent quantum states. The successful applicant will develop and establish a novel methodology that probes exotic collective excitations through interface engineering. The successful applicant will also gain exposure to synthesis techniques, such as single crystal growth and epitaxial deposition. Research will be performed at the UTK campus and national facilities, such as synchrotrons and high magnetic field laboratory.
Qualifications
Qualifications:The applicant should have a PhD in physics or in related fields. Prior experience with one or several of the above techniques and topics is desired. Experience with programming software, such as Labview and MATLAB, will also be a plus. The applicant should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and should be strongly self-motivated and eager to learn and work with others in the highly collaborative research environment.UT’s Department of Physics & Astronomy has an exemplary research record, with seven professors earning NSF CAREER awards in the past eight years, eight professors recently cited among the world’s top two percent of physicists (based on citations), and Professor Geoff Greene honored with the prestigious Bonner Prize in 2020.
