Job Details

A.T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) is seeking an exempt Director - Dentistry in the Community at the St. Louis Dental Center. The position reports to the Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs and Advanced Dental Education. It is responsible for developing and directing courses, projects, seminars, and participation opportunities related to the Dentistry in the Community program in Kirksville, MO, and in St. Louis, MO. 

Major Job Duties

  • Develop collaborations with local community partners in Kirksville and St. Louis in order to develop meaningful participation opportunities for D1-4 students in community projects
  • Coordinate and manage D1-4 student and faculty participation in community outreach events in Kirksville and St. Louis
  • Write and administer grants to support Dentistry in the Community
  • Develop annual reports on the accomplishments and outcomes of Dentistry in the Community
  • Evaluate Dentistry in the Community programs and didactic content related to DIC and make recommendations as
    necessary for changes
  • Contribute to the development of Commission on Dental Accreditation documents.
  • Evaluate student performance on assignments, community involvement, and professionalism.
  • Direct activities with community partners for student involvement in community activities.
  • Develop and manage affiliation agreements, supervision requirements and insurance coverage for community projects
  • Direct and mentor students in the development of public health concepts and implementation of community projects.
  • Guide students and serve as a resource for development, execution, completion and evaluation of student projects.
  • Develop and maintain a database for Dentistry in the Community activities and outcomes.
  • Maintain community project files with progress notes, progress reporting schedules, and student credit.
  • Oversee and contribute to additional MOSDOH and ATSU community projects and events.
  • Contribute to relevant MOSDOH and ATSU committees.
  • Represent ATSU MOSDOH and Dentistry in the Community by presenting and/or attending at local/regional/national conferences.
  • Collaborate with other ATSU schools to create interprofessional/interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Advancement and the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging to implement
  • University policies within Dentistry in the Community.
  • Maintain professional and organization customs and enforce ethical practices among employees.
  • Participate in research as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Education, Public Health, or Health related field

  • Dental background desirable but not required
  • Public Health background
  • Knowledge of the following areas:
    • Administration, leadership, strategic planning, policy development, and collaboration
    • Community resources
    • Grant writing and reporting
    • Development and implementation of new programs
  • Experience in directing a program and employees, partnership building, grant writing, public health concepts, planning, implementing and evaluating community projects, working with community groups and organizations, developing education materials, coordinating classroom group activities and guest speakers, lesson planning, and delivering lecture material.
