Assistant Professor of Statistics (Tenure Track)

St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, beginning January 2024 or August 2024. St. Edward's is characterized by its commitment to the Holy Cross educational mission to educate the hearts and minds of a diverse student body that is deeply committed to social justice.

The successful candidate will work to develop and teach courses, maintain a program of scholarly activity that includes mentoring student research, and engage in professional service. They will also work with the Mathematics Department to assist with the development and launch of a new degree in data science. The typical teaching load is four courses per semester with opportunities for reassignment for research.

For consideration, applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in statistics or a closely related field.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Teaching MATH 3320 Applied Statistics
  • Developing and teaching new courses in statistics and/or data science
  • Teaching other mathematics courses as needed
  • Academic advising
  • Mentoring students in multi-year research projects
  • Other duties as assigned

About the SCHOOL OF NATURAL SCIENCES

The School of Natural Sciences is home to six academic departments, including Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Forensic Science, Kinesiology, and Mathematics. The School of Natural Sciences also houses the Wild Basin Creative Research Center, a 227-acre preserve that is open to the public and supports university teaching and research activities, and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Science, an NSF-funded center that fosters cross-sector partnerships, interdisciplinary collaborations, and training in informatics and emerging technologies.
