Job Description

The Office of First-Year Experience at Texas A&M University-San Antonio is seeking applications from qualified candidates for multiple part-time faculty positions starting Fall 2023. The successful candidate will teach our First-Year Seminar (UNIV 1301) undergraduate courses and participate in various professional development sessions; multiple sections are possible for those interested in teaching more than one section. Our course is designed to assist first-year students in adjusting to university expectations through enhancing quantitative reasoning skills and acquiring essential skills for academic success. The candidates must have a graduate degree in higher education, psychology, counseling or related fields. The position requires on-site face-to-face availability for teaching classes. Most courses are offered during the day, with some evening class offerings.

Successful candidates must attend mandatory instructor training August 14-15th, 8AM-5PM.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in education, psychology, counseling or related fields, from a regionally accredited institution.

  • A minimum of one-year formal college or university teaching experience or five years of experience in a higher education setting.

  • Exhibit a collaborative style that facilitates cooperation and teamwork.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral Degree (Ed.D or Ph.D) in education, psychology, counseling or related fields.

  • Experience teaching non-traditional, first-generation, culturally diverse students.

  • At least two years of formal teaching in a higher education setting.

  • Experience with contemporary instructional technologies such as Learning Management Systems (Blackboard) and ePortfolios.

  • Effective communications skills.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Finalist will be required to submit three original letters of recommendation and official transcripts from each degree-granting institution must be received directly by the Office of First-Year Experience (see address below). Current employees of Texas A&M-SA will need to get prior approval from their supervisor or department chair. E-scripts and E-recommendations will be considered IF emailed directly to the Director of First-Year Seminar. If transcripts are from an international institution, it is the responsibility of the prospective applicant to have the transcripts translated and evaluated by an approved credential evaluator.
